i would like addepisode to behave more like renamerecordings, in that if there is not an episode name it would leave the show name and recording date/time in tact. as i record shows without episode names, and need to know at a glance, when they were recorded to check against the tvguide to know which episode it was.

http://www.epguides.com is down for the moment (funny) but I seem to remember checking and thos enyumbers relate mostly to the production numbers rather than the episode numbers. That is, some eps that I was checking, was in season 5, but had a number like 813...

EDIT: num Fear Factor 305, from 2002, Oct 14 ( my birthday!) is considered season 3, episiode 4...

Using the actual EPG entry, it would be possible to define the filename based on all the Zap2It information sent, not just the fields saved in the GBPVR database. Or save a txt file with extended information like cast and crew.

Yeah I would like to to see what is actually in that XML, but have been to scared because of the size.. really spooky!

I've read a bunch from this thread and the wiki but I can't get a clear answer..

Has RenameRecording been retired, and will not be updated to sqlite?

If so, anyone or anything that is picking up the torch?

(Sorry if this is one of those questions that is padding up this thread)

I do a similar thing on my gbpvr system, but I have been reluctant to release it to the public because I am not quite sure about the how the owners of the television information websites like epguides.com would react. However, if you would like to use my utility "addepisode" to rename the file once you have the data on your computer, I would be happy to give you a version that has the ability to add in the episode and season numbers. Let me know if your interested, and i'll give more details.

Well I was just starting to work on a project that finds the web page, downloads it parses it, (quite quick so far) Haven't got to the isolating season and ep info.

Man I hate being redundant! I'd love to look at what you got...

PM me with details... (BTW where are you?)

i use an enhanced version of addepisode.exe (the basic version can be found here) that searches for the recorded show in a txt file that has the form:

Show Name @ sXXeXX @ Episode Name @[ Air Date ]

if it finds the show and episode, it renames the file with this form:

Show Name - sXXeXX - Episode Name

This version of addepisode is really buggy right now, but I will release it as soon as i have everything figured out. It will also have the ability to add the recording date to the filename (if there is no season and episode number), among other enhancements.

So, if you want to use this utility for adding the season and episode number into the filename, all you will have to do is figure out how to get the season and episode number into a txt file.

So to be clear:

1. you have something you're fixing and finishing that will change the file names with sXXeXX info that it finds in a txt file..

2. either you are not releasing or do not have a component that will gather the season/episode info from the internet and make the text file?

If 2=true, I will finish up that little parser that will make a compatible txt file...

(you may be right about the webpage owners not wanting to have the info used in this way. But if the info is there, and we have a generic program that can parse web content, it's up to the user to connect a couple of dots...)

This MAY NOT work with 97.7 as it accesses the GBPVR database directly. If you switch to SQLLite it will defintely not work, but should still work if you are using Microsoft Access.

I have just released the latest version of addepisode, and I have made a new support thread for it so I dont hijack this thread any more. Support and download link.

I have a question... is it possible to run a program AFTER renamerecording in postprocessing.bat? What I mean is, is there a way to have the batch file use the new name of the recording (because %1 still calls to the original name)?

I guess what I'm trying to do is find out how to reference (with a variable) the NEW name after RenameRecording has run, so that I can -in turn- do something further with the file. Any thoughts?
