I developed it with Firefox in mind, pretty much because it's what I use. The latest build *should* work in Internet Explorer; I tested it on a few of my PCs and it worked ok.

If anyone is having errors with IE, please post back and paste whatever error or issue is going on. Hopefully I'll have IE support for the embedded playback; that should make things much easier for IE users.

Well for me, it's not working in either firefox or IE opening the saved, vlc file.

VLC is running on the gbpvr machine but something's not connecting up.

The other problem is that the list of recordings is incorrect as it is listing future recordings and not just recordings that have been made. In other words, i'm being offered my pending recordings too.

Other than the fact that it doesn't work for me, I like it and look forward to it working Smile

It appears I am not getting the VLC pluin installed into IE.....I select to install it on the VLC install but when the stream player window displays I have the broken plugin icon in the window......I see nothing in the IE Tools, Internet Options, Settings, view objects shows nothing like VLC Plugin.

Any ideas?

Right now, you will *not* see a picture in the player window when using IE. This is because that page is using the Mozilla plugin which doesn't load in IE. In the next build, it will serve up a page with the ActiveX plugin embedded if it detects you're using IE.. then it should all work nicely.

So for now, I guess, you get rewarded for using Firefox Smile

djtaylor: do you get any errors? and did you install the Firefox plugin when you installed VLC on the computer you're using to view the stream?

I have the same problem as djtaylor using firefox. VLC starts on the server, but nothing plays on the client. I've tried running it on on the server itself to eliminate networking issues as much as possible. It's not a firewall issue since I'm running win 2K without a firewall.

Anyway I can tell what the instance of VLC on the server is trying to do?? It's not using hardly any CPU at all. I expected it to be fairly intensive since it's transcoding.

Also, I installed in the default directory, but the recordings are on a different drive, D:\recordings. Thought it may be worth mentionning this.

Thanks for your efforts, this ios gonna be great once I get it working.

edit: I tried both starting in browser window and spawning an instance of VLC. Also I do not see any errors.

I don't think VLC will eat up many CPU cycles until you actually start playing the stream; it's smart I suppose and doesn't chew up resources when it's not needed. It also doesn't matter where your recordings are.. the streamer gets the filenames from the GBPVR API.

*Maybe* the default port isn't working for you... try this:

Start the stream, and when the black player window shows up, view the source of the page. Towards the bottom, you'll see a line like:

<!-- FILE: D:\Recordings\blablabla.mpg -->

make sure that file path is the correct one.

Then, run the VLC Media Player and use the url http://your_server_ip:1234

If that doesn't play, then you're having a networking connectivity problem; in that case change the port to something else in the webStreamer.xml config file.

If it works under VLC Media Player, then we'll have to investigate further... I have a hunch it won't play in there though.

Well it's getting late, I tried to install the firefox plug in but it said one could not be found. Is that under the VLC plug ins folder?

I tried loading VLC direct on a couple of machines to connect up and again, not a firewall issue, that's turned off.

I can use VLC manually to stream. What was curious is that when I did this using the wizard, MP4 was not an option I could choose for transcoding. Are there any dependancies that need to be installed for VLC to transcode and stream?

Works fine from inside my network.....but I am not seeing the video outside of my network. I even changed the port to 7648 to see if there was some sort of port blocking at work....still no go.
