Ditto.

Yeah, the monitor is definitely dead. At the time it happened I tried the monitor on two other PCs. I'd also tested other monitors on the dead AGP machine too.

I did think that, but decided to stick with AGP for now for a couple of reasons. I've got a couple of other test cards I use, both AGP, and its convenient to be able to use them in my development machine if I need to. I also wanted to get a board straight away, rather than ordering from an online retailer and having to wait until Monday for it to arrrive (Friday here now) - unfortunately Wellington has pretty slim pickings for Socket 939 boards.

I would have liked to go to PCIe, but I think that'll have to wait to I really decide my next big upgrade.

I've got a nvidia 7600GS AGP ordered, to replace my previous high end card (the smokey smelling X800). I should have this Monday, and will use a 6200 for now.

Hey sub, didn't see you mention what model of board you had? Also, any warranty on that ATI card that fried?

It was a Gigabyte K8T800 Pro board.

No, it was an ATI sample device I've had for a year and half or so. I would of hassled my ATI contact over it - but he left resigned from ATI recently.

It was looking like a reinstall to get everything working again, so I've opted to try a clean install on Vista. After a half day with it, I must admit I quite like it (though that maybe the new 24" Dell LCD I plugged in for the first time when I installed Big Grin ).

I'm still working on getting the development tools all working so I can build GB-PVR etc.

Well sounds like you've got it all sorted out, too bad you can't get anything replaced under warranty. And as usual with a mobo swap, you have to reinstall or at least run a repair.

I am still getting used to Vista, the interface is pretty but sometimes it seems to go to lunch before responding.
