I'm not sure how complex you want to make it but it can be quite simple...I've got mine setup to update through a batch file to run at 2 am using windows scheduler and that's it. Worked fine for a week until my PSU broke. Now you can also use updateEPG.bat and put it there so it's completely integrated. I've but a fail-safe script in between from my old myHTPC days where it'll create a temp EPG.xml file and only copy it over to the the real location if the file size is greater than a minimum amount. This ensures that you don't copy a 0 kb file if your internet connection dies or something like that.
