I use EWA on local machine and over LAN. I have two systems - Live and Test. Both had the same versions of everything on them (including EWA 1.74).

I installed 1.2.9 on the test system and EWA was fine.

When I installed 1.2.9 on the live system I got similar problems to pbb - I checked the firewall and stuff but nothing wrong there - at one point I got an info screen which seemed to suggest a problem with the Ajax lib - so I reinstalled ver 1.74 from my original download, following the install instructions and that fixed it.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to extract any useful debug info...

It could be an installer issue....but I am not sure...there were a few (non-ewa) issues with the installer that sub was restling with. I normally advise anyone having a problem with ewa to download the latest release and follow the install instructions on the wiki.

To utilize a class for Ajax calls you have to use a web service that calls the class containing the functions you want Ajax to use.

You can see the web service and the methods currently used by going to the following url:

http://localhost:7647/gbpvr/ajaxservice2.asmx (this is for the CSS based screens. ajaxservice.asmx is for the table based screens)

You should get a page that show 3 methods at the top of the page. If you are running on the server itself you can click on the method name and actually see the XML that is returned by the web service....otherwise you will get a page telling you that you need to be on the local machine to execute the method.

However....you should not be seeing any errors.

I installed 1.2.9 with no problems but got the attached screenshot. I then went back to 1.1.5 and everything worked fine. I then installed EWA, build 74, and it didn't work. Reinstalled the files from 1.1.5 EWA and all works again.

Having noticed that there were a few MSI related issues with 1.2.9, I assumed that was the source of my problem (especially as it worked on the test system) - so I just wanted to share what was a very easy solution for me in the hope that it might work for others...

However I had a look at ...ajaxservice2.asmx (but I know very little about the detail of web services) - maybe it's time I did... Thanks for that

Yeah, that's actually the only reason I upgraded to build 74 of EWA.

I uninstalled first, and then deleted the gbpvr directory (which was lowercase), then installed 1.2.9 (now it is uppercase GBPVR) and it works now.

You need to log on the local machine and run EWA....you will get an actual error screen that will provide info on what is occuring.

Ok...I figured it was some sort of install thing. Glad it is working....

Since 1.2.9 search is no longer working for me.
I re-installed build 74, but the error is still there:

This is because the new/improved search only works with the SQLite DB. You will need to run the upgrade to convert your current Access based database to use the newer (18 months at least) SQLite database.

Upgrade is easy....just run the ChangeDatbase.exe file in the gbvr directory.
