some thoughts from a non MPV/PCH user who uses GBPVR on server (living room) & client (bedroom):
- that box is a bit ugly (does not help with WAF a lot Wink)
- they sell them in germany for 240€ (that's 380$ !!!). thats definitely a rip off & a no-go.
- i use comskip, that would be a must
- no OSD is really ugly & not an option
- because of only one FTA HD broadcaster over satellite, HD is not an urgency, the only HD stuff would be from BD or VoD within the next 2 years Sad
- i need 1 server & don't want it in any bedroom, so it goes to the living room & is used there also as a client, why waste additional money for additional HW
- in the bedroom there is a computer used for surfing & mailing, if just makes sense to also use it as a client

if i will need any additional clients, the PCH might make sense (for less money), i just wonder why every potential client is crippled from the begining & must be sort of hacked to get them to work like everybody with a little sense want it... i.e. PS3, yeah, linux no problem, but no direct access to the GPU for VA please, XBOX, yeah XDK (or whatever for developing) but please only under NDA & no networking allowed...

Looking at the pile of boxes on my desk from all sorts of products, mvp, satellite and cable receivers etc, ... it actually looks better than you'd expect in person. That said, I did unscrew the top panel and flip it over so I didnt have to see the popcorn hour logo Big Grin

I bought mine for about US$200 including shipping to New Zealand, so I'm sure you could get it cheaper than 240€.

It doesnt have the regular GB-PVR OSD but it does have an OSD. It's built in OSD shows the timeline, and text on screen to tell you how far its skipping, etc.

dunno about that, they have some heavy taxes here on multimedia kind of stuff, so it might end up damn near the same Sad

I am definately looking forward to the PCH or other thin client to provide an HD interface to GBPVR. Although I do not currently possess an HDTV. I figure I won't switch until my current sets start to fail.
I think the GBPVR functionality is a definate plus with ANY unit you guys end up choosing. Comskip and OSD are big pluses for me and the wifey.
All of the plugins that have been developed are an asset AFAIK that makes the combination of GBPVR and a thin client so valuable and attractive.

Thanks for all the great work!

That's pretty much all I use out of the GBPVR OSD anyway. I rarely bring up the guide during playback. Having the rest of the GBPVR interface is what would make for the smoothest transition for me.

Lack of resume isn't a big deal since it doesn't seem to work all that great when I have comskip on.

I can deal with missing comskip if given the ability to skip ahead during playback. How far ahead does the skip button send you for each press?

Does skipping work w/ mpeg-ts? mvallevand indicated that Syabas has some work to do on TS playback.

All in all, this is certainly the most promissing in terms of bringing HD from a server to my HDTV in the family room (obviously I could shell out > $600 a noisy PC client, but that would have a large negative impact on WAF).

Thanks to you both for all the work you are putting into this. I can't wait for my invite.
GBPVR v1.4.7

Since nobody expected a Spanish Inquisition, no more questions. What I really wanted to show was there is no reply to psycik's original post, everyone will see GB-PBR/NMT/MVPX2 integration from different perspectives. From my first post here it I have wanted to help by providing options and I think this a good one.

There is an interesting thread starting at mpcclub that is quite relevant about HTPC vs Media Player.

Hi-Jack forgot to consider that you can have both.

Fair call. I'm still looking at the PCH, but whether it will migrate to the lounge or not will remain to be seen. But for that price I'm probably willing to overlook some features, especially compared to the cost of building a client.

Oh and I must add, that while I probably didn't get the answer I wanted, if nothing else it served to show the limitations that you are working to, and limitations you have overcome to bring the device as far as you have.

My hat is, as usual, off to you and sub and the others who have worked on this project.

It's probably better than the real answer which is I really have no idea what is possible going forward. A few months ago I wasn't sure I could print
"hello world" however.
