overlay is about the only way you will get that going

i dont think myth will be any better

have you tried different decoders
whats your cpu usage etc doing when it gets jumpy

I have tried Cyberlink, MPEG, Intervideo, to name a few. Perhaps I haven't been overly methodical in trying them in various possible combinations. I can see that it's possible it points to hardware - being a constant factor throughout.

CPU usage is sitting under 15% when it's jumpy. Not that I do, but I can still use the PC pretty heavily when the video is jumping. Sometimes it spikes to 100%, but that is when the whole app seems to hang, and is usually resolved by using a different decoder (etc) combination.

I did a search for "nvidia 7600" on trademe based on what you said about them being the best I could get in AGP at the moment. Do these results seem 1. better than what i have (obviously yes) and 2. worth the price?

edit.. CPU usage is sitting WELL under 15% when it's jumpy.. 15% max.

What do you think of the tuner card - HVR3000 ? I've found it easy to blame that, but of course I don't have anything to compare it to.

my disclosure is dont blame me Smile if it doesnt work
but looking at what you have as far as a pc goes thats is the weak link for video playback
but yeah something like would be where my money would go
i dont think they make any cards better than that as agp cant handle the bandwidth or something

try this to see if your playback improves
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/MPV_Decoder.htm
look at the bottom of the page it gives you a link for the audio decoder aswell
your system may not be using the decoders you think it is
the intervideo one only ever seemed to work in its own player
and mpeg one never worked at all for me so im wondering if your system actually isnt doing what you think it is

also check that you have wait for vertical sync always on in video card settings an d turn off all other 3d setting this will help your video card work a bit smoother

From a quick look they are abit on the expensive side, I always check http://www.pricepsy.co.nz before I look at new hardware, now this will give you the cheapest price but not neccesarily good service, that has the 7600gs agp listed at around 150 and the 7600gt at around 210, although those may not be passively cooled.

http://c1com.co.nz/shop/step0.php?b_code...de=C000035 that page lists all the agp nvidia cards that C1 computers stocks, they are a reputable retailer and you will get good after sale service, the best options look like the 7300 for 120ish and the 7600 for 150ish

I am in the process of setting my dish up atm, but will be running a nova-s-plus vid card, I haven't seen any complaints about the 3000 tho but many have issues with the nova-s as it is not officially supported by gbpvr you have to use technotrend drivers. I also run a hauppage 500 twin analogue tuner atm as well and although I haven't got the picture perfect yet I am getting there and its part an aerial issue as well

Probably the part where I admitted to maybe not being methodical enough when trying various decoders is the problem there.

Can you tell me where I'd go to change those settings you mention? veritcal sync and "turn off all other 3d settings"?

If I was going to upgrade my system including motherboard and CPU etc, without going over the top, what sort of stuff should I look at?
