Thanks for all the support. Hopefully the comments from developers give even more insight into the hidden time these project take (in addition to requiring quite an accepting wife). My time is given freely because I enjoy sharing my hobby with this community which does seem to have a sense of purpose without the feeling that it is only a bunch of fanboys.

I did want to re-assure everyone who has bought or is thinking of buying a PCH that I will find a way to continue to provide software updates until the x2 code is ported into mvpmc. Beta code isn't exempt from the GPL. Right now I am only looking at a few smallish changes anyway but if sub comes up with any more brilliant ideas this won't deter me from working with him.

Martin,
Let me join with the other in saying that your efforts have not gone unnoticed. In fact, quite the contrary. I just received my PCH yesterday. And quite frankly, the only reason that I ordered one was that even though we don't have full functionality today, I had every confidence in you and your abilities and your seemingly unending willingness to keep pushing forward that we would eventually get there.

And besides that, you and sub made it sound just so cool that I couldn't stand not having one any longer! I have never worked on a GPL project before, so unfortunately I can't give you any guidance on what and when you need to publish. But having worked in the software industry for 14 years, I can readily appreciate the time and effort that you have put in.

I don't want to urge you either way, and I can certainly understand your reluctance to publish unfinished code. But if that is all it would take to shut them up, then is it really worth all the stress that you are obviously taking over this issue? Life is too short to sweat all the little things. Forcing you to publish isn't fair, and people can often times be very cruel in the name of justice, but you can't let it get you down.

If you do decide to take things private, please consider letting me help with any testing that you need to do. I will do whatever I can to help, and I promise NOT to impose any unrealistic or legalistic demands!!Big Grin

Thanks,
Kevin

Even big name software outfits get caught out with the GPL at times.

I'd just like to add my support to sub and Martin for putting the huge amount of time into this wonderous hardware/software combination. Having just acquired my PCH, I'd be devastated if development went underground.

thanks to all.

(Here in Canada we normally use "tempest in a teacup" and I've heard "storm in a teacup" too. I've never heard "storm in a class of water" except by francophones who say "tempête dans un verre d'eau")

Martin

You can always call me for a beer (I'll pay, or is that against GPL-regulations?). Well I don't have a PCH, so I don't benefit from your work on this.Wink
"Storm in een glas water" is very common dutch expression. Your francophone friends must have picked it up here.Big Grin Be aware that it's water, not something else, a dutchman wouldn't take any risk with anything else in the glass.Big Grin
Good luck and success with al this stuff.

Last November, you sent me some samples to help diagnose a play all problem in ML2 and mvmpc. We exchanged serveral PM's but it was late evening here and it was very late there.

I served it for 10 yrs working in a bar, I'm sure I flushed some memory cells then.Big Grin
I did some math once and it turned out that I probably served (draught) about 1/2 million glasses of grolsch during those years. You'll understand I had to constantly check the quality of the served goods.
