Sub,

is the change to stream .ts files without conversion already live in the current version? Could you pack it into the next release? Pleeease?

I'd like to use the alternate dongle here, as the .TS is generally a better option instead of the Cyberlink mux (which I really don't like much) for DVB-T broadcasts.

Is there any automated way to "hack" in the .TS to .MPG rename option mentioned earlier in the thread with the postprocessing.bat scheme?

Thanks,
Dane

The next version has an option to pass transport streams to the MVP without transcoding them, but as I mentioned above, this is far from perfect. Depending on the transport stream you can sometimes loose the ability to see the duration & current position (which also means skipping wont work).

Hi Sub,

looking at the log file from tonight, I see the following happening:

We use FFMPEG to downsample into the PAL SVCD format
We use FFMPEG to copy the audio and video streams from TS to MPG

Strange, though, that I only see the 2nd copy command being executed, and not the original downsample. The resulting MPG file on the HDD is about 50MB smaller than the original TS. The audio was unfortunately also out of sync compared to the TS file -- I *hate* transcoding -- but the file was in original resolution instead of the PAL transcode variant.

Any suggestions on what is happening here?

I was thinking of making the "FFMPEG" transcode just a copy/rename instead and

Code:

I have a different need than you do, I need to rename .TS to .m2ts so I can download from a http server (HFS in my case) to my PS3 so I can play my recorded shows. Since the updated driver that added AC3 encodeing for my HDPVR this is now possible to play the files I record directly rather than doing "rework" through TotalMedia Extreme.

How I do this is exactly what you were talking about... a hack of the PostProcessing.bat file. This "may" work for you (standard disclaimer of it's not my fault if it doesn't or eat's your cat or something) it does work for me under WinXP.

@echo off <--Not needed but I have it there
c: <--Not sure move needs the drive letter, but being safe here.
move %1 %1.m2ts <--Change the .m2ts to whatever extension you wish

That's it, if your file was originally something like "C:\My Documents\Admin\My Videos\Charlie Jade\Charlie Jade_20081007_02000300.ts" it will now be "C:\My Documents\Admin\My Videos\Charlie Jade\Charlie Jade_20081007_02000300.ts.m2ts" or whatever extension you put in there.

This isn't exactly good batch programming in action, but it works for me.

Yeah, I thought about that, but since I'm using a Hauppauge MVP, I need to have the .ts file properly in the database in GBPVR.

I could record in TS, then rename, but it would break the DB entires and hence the MVP connection.

Better would be if Sub quickly implements the .ts streaming in the next release!!!!

I'm still waiting for people who want to see this support in mvpmc to provide a reasonable 50-100MB sample on a site like megaupload. The "support" being proposed is simply GBPVR pass the file and I have mixed feelings about how well this will work.

Frankly in North America, because of AC3 audio it is pretty much a waste of time. Note only that the time line on the OSD always seems messed up and I'd like to see a good file.

Hi Martin,

what exactly do you need? I can put a .TS from a local DVB-T broadcaster in Germany up for you anytime. I think that some are also working in Stereo with AC3, I don't use them but can get you a file if you want.

Just let me know, I've got plenty of upload bandwidth and an FTP site for you.

Regards,
Dane

Dane, I will be happy to look at a few 50-100 MB samples that you provide and give you an idea of how they work. AC3 won't work but I will be able to get an idea of how the error rate on decode is, which is a problem if soft decoding is used instead of digital passthru. Just PM me the link. News or talk shows are usually best just for lip sync but anything will do as long as it is created with the TS Mux.
