Whurlston,

have deliberately left a couple of entries out from your post. Attached new file waiting for Stustunz's Codec entry.

I give this 1 week to run then will mess with the Wiki next week. I say mess with perhaps this will bring enlightment?

Please all look at the bullet points and see if something has been missed, doesn't really matter as we can all add, later. But we would need to populate the Glossary abbreviations etc.

Cheers

Jaggy:

Quote:I don't think I saw.....but I didn't go back to re-read the thread

PCH
mvpmc
mvpmcx2

In my mind all of these would all fall under 'thin clients' under the general heading of 'MVP & NMT' which I did mention.

Comment?

Big GrinBig GrinBig GrinOK, thanks all for input, still waiting for a new user to give thumbs up, but it won't stop us!

I give 2/3 days from now for tweaking please find attached the abbreviated list of definitions. Of course anyone can add later.

Just nice to lock down the definitions for the Glossary for now.

Look, tweak and be happy! Whurlston has started to populate the definitions, please fill in and let's see how it goes! No definition - no entry.... perhaps

Why cock around? Obviously there are enough of us think it is a good idea to go ahead with it, so why not just start the wiki page & change/add to it as you go along, it is easy to change edit a wiki page after it is started, maybe put the standard "under construction" disclaimer at the top. Then just keep this thread going to get definitions & ideas?

codec - "Codec" is a technical name for "compression/decompression". It also stands for "compressor/decompressor" and "code/decode". All of these variations mean the same thing: a codec is a computer program that both shrinks large movie files, and makes them playable on your computer. Codec programs are required for your media player to play your downloaded music and movies

Jaggy,

Quote:Why cock around?

That made me smile at first but what is that language? I looked at it and then it made me angry-ish, well not really because I can be a cock.

Quote:Obviously there are enough of us think it is a good idea to go ahead with it, so why not just start the wiki page & change/add to it as you go along

I think you are right, there are enough people going with this to make it a good idea but I just wanted to make sure the community was along with me. Having edited this stuff before I just wanted to make sure that it was a good idea. Surely you know there's a lot of work involved?

Quote:Well where is you're last change it is easy to change edit a wiki page after it is started, maybe put the standard "under construction" disclaimer at the top. Then just keep this thread going to get definitions & ideas?

Not really for me. You may well notice that I was the last person to edit the Wiki front page 11 months ago nearly. In theory you are right anyone can edit a page but to give it structure? For me there is NO under construction, you do it or you don't?

Cheers

Thanks Stustunz, I think that's pretty close, but I am feeling a bit sad now, not sure what I did wrong, after all it was only an idea.....

it is a good idea
ive been using gbpvr for a few years now and still sometimes wonder what some of the terms mean different countries different broadcast standards / new standards

why you sad
jaggy said stop cocking around not you are a cock
he meant just do it
no offence meant

i could write half a page on most things and that would just confuse new comers even more (information overload)
im sure if we give brief descriptions that will give people enough info to use google to find out more

My message was meant to be one of encouragement not discouragement! Sorry if it didn't come out that way, I'm under a bit of strain at the moment.

All I was suggesting was to get it underway on the wiki & add to it as you got definitions & ideas, this way it should grow into something that is the way you want it to be & could actually be quite different than what you envisage at the moment...........but it was only an idea to save you a bit of time doing things more than once.
