Thanks all for your patience, off to bed now to dream! I think we all see what I am driving at? I hope?

Not really, since I've tried to explain that I don't see any opportunity to improve things, and unfortunately you aren't buying it. The reason I had the OSD in mvpmc for the MVP was because of the WOL not because this is a slow process. Jaggy has it right almost all of the blank screen is out of my control, but if you want to shorten the time try component HD, were there is less handshaking.

Hi Martin. it was late for me last night and I wasn't following it. Certainly not a case of not 'buying it' a case of not understanding it!

I have bought it!

7 seconds of blank/black screen not knowing what will happen was the only issue...

May I suggest that for any other potential/future NMT etc device that somehow a kind of visual feedback may be implemented to enhance the WAF?

Is that one for sub then?

cheers

It would really be worthwhile getting a set of component cables and comparing them against HDMI - I've got one A100 using component and another using HDMI and the difference in the delay really is significant...

Sir Alex, in favour of which? Component boots faster than HDMI or vice versa? And anyway have to say this is just a discussion in principle as TV only has Component in no HDMI! (Bought 2nd hand as a test...) Old model...

cheers

In my experience component is much faster - if I'm watching TV using the built in tuner and I decide to watch a recording, I hit the power button on the NMT remote (Hauppauge 45 button) to bring the NMT out of standby and by the time I've changed the TV source from Freeview to Component (4 keypresses) and waited for the handshaking (about 3 secs during which the TV displays a couple of lines of text indicating its changing to component), the NPVR menu is displayed. Maybe your older TV is slower at handshaking when you change source and apparently gives you no visual indication of what it's doing...

Hiya stustunz,

Martin has explained that once the handshake starts that is beyond his control. My WAF issue is that I get 7/8 seconds of total black screen with no user visual feedback before NextPVR screen loads. That is all Big Grin

I do not see how people find this a problem that I have brought it up. I can see Martin's POV totally here that this is beyond his control. All I have asked is for a visual feedback on a TV monitor to show that NextPVR is doing something.......

A blank screen is like watching paint dry...

I will dig out Video Camera and post on youtube my 7 second blank screen. Though from what I can gather we all get this any way? I am looking to the future to see whatever sub and Martin come up with for the Next extender devices that there will be some kind of visual feedback.

How are things in NZ?

cheers

So get in touch with your TV manufacture & get then to speed up the handshake etc. Good luck Smile

I think the point is that while the TV is chatting with the new Source, only handshaking data is exchanged, so the NMT can't display anything on the screen. It's the TV which has decided to display a black screen...
