performance for xbmc in general seems a lot better, at lot more stable when running 20121014.

npvr addon comes with that release, so thats really easy to setup (dont have to worry about pvr api version).
Great.

Quote:performance for npvr seems roughly the same (I know not much development has gone into it in the last week or so due to merging with main xbmc source). So still same issues with slow loading of channel groups
For the record, I have taken a quick look in the debugger to try working out what XBMC is doing during this time. The bulk of it seems to relate to querying the channel groups and members of each group, and deciding that the channel memberships are new new so it's deleting and recreating them everytime. The reason it thinks the channels are new is because the channel ids dont match those loaded from the database. This seems to be a bug in XBMC - by the time the data is reloaded from the data channel id is always set to the channel number, rather than the channel id we supplied on the last run. If NextPVR's channel id and channel number were always the same value (which may be true in some pvr addons), then we wouldn't see this problem.

cheers sub for looking into it.

fully aware there are going to be issues for the next few months with all the active development going on in the main xbmc.

can you please look into timeshift support soon? would love to get this feature back (havent had timeshift ability on my tvs for about a year now, since switch to xbmc pvr, do miss it at time Smile)

The enclosure I ordered with it has arrived (from Australia).

You'll have to check if you got the new 512m Model. Sounds like a good chance you will.

Reven, in XBMC try going to Settings->Live TV->General and untick the 'synchronise channel groups with backend' and see if this slow period of startup goes away.

I've found a few bugs in XBMC around the channel sync stuff (much of it related to broken PVR radio logic), and turning off the channel sync looks like the best short term fix. Most people's channel lists are fairly static, so only temporarily turn it on if you know you've changed your channel list.

oh the pi it takes about 50 seconds, but after about 30 seconds into that 50 seconds, the raspbmc say your connected your ip address, so most of that is probably not network connection.

on other clients it reduces that time to about 10 seconds for the first message, then proceeds to loading of epg data. so its a lot better with it turned off.

and it would be interesting to see if you get the new 512MB model pi sub, all models b now ship with 512MB instead of 256MB.

Looks like the http API was depricated so the android remote app will stop working until XBMC 12 is released. (About 6 weeks if they keep on schedule)
so if you're running the nightlies, this is why the remote stopped working.

I finally decided to order the rpi since they are showing the 512B http://www.mkt-element-14.com/raspberry/...tt=43w5302 The XBMC forum expert seem to prefer the Pivos DS (which is at alpha6 and growing) but I will be a able to give a comparison for myself. Unfortunately Newark aren't even taking orders at the moment
