Hopefully, they will reply in reasonable amount of time.

Good luck with Tech support for a 40$ TV Tuner !

In the meantime find this 10-4_win7_32-64_unified_wdm.exe with google and install the TV tuner driver

I do remember that the Remote control driver stop working after installing 10.4, so I reverted the Remote control driver to previous version (only if you use the remote control)

If you have an AMD display driver, I would not run the 10-4_win7_32-64_unified_wdm.exe because it might comprise your display driver, you would have to re-install the Display driver after running 10.4 install.

Instead, extract the 10-4_win7_32-64_unified_wdm.exe to a folder with 7zip, go in Device Manager, Update Driver, Look for a driver on my computer, point the the extraction folder for 10.4, (10-4_win7_32-64_unified_wdm\Packages\Drivers\WDM\AVS_HSUSB\W7 or W764A for x64 bit Windows 7) this should update the driver for you USB tuners without installing Catalyst Control Center

You got that right about getting Tech support for a $40 tuner.

This morning I installed (again) 10-4_win7_32-64_unified_wdm.exe.

Then, I reinstalled the driver for my display driver - ATI 4250 integrated gpu (13-9-legacy_vista_win7_32-64_dd_ccc_whql.exe).

Note: the latest AMD driver for win8 fails during installation and causes my system to reboot.

I am currently at the point where in NextPVR:

1. In Devices/settings I see 4 devices - ATR BDA Digital Tuner is selected (at the top of the list) and it shows 97 channels.

Nothing referencing analog is showing. The NPRV.log file does not show anything analog installed.

Under Setting/Channels - all channels names come up as unknown (channel number) ie. Unknown 13.5. Source shows as QAM EPG shows as DVB/ASTC EPG - which has me puzzled. Does ATSC referring to over-the-air? This is basic Time Warner cable - not over the air.

If I exit Settings and select Live TV - all I get is a black screen.

Apparently I have not done something that's needed for either Digital or Analog reception.

Sorry for all the trouble - as I stated at the beginning. I am a non-techie person who currently is confused and having problems installing and setting up something this complex.

It's not uncommon for the channel names to show as a 'Unknown xx.x' on digital cable in the US. Unfortunately the FCC made it optional for cable companies to transmit the channel channels and number, so very few transmit this info. NextPVR can find the channels, but has no way to what they're called, or what channel number they are.

The FCC did make it mandatory for over-the-air ATSC, which means you always get nice names for that.

This is probably down to the decoders you've got selected.

Sorry it's turning into a hassle.

The original intention for NextPVR was:
  • that detection of digital devices would be automatic and easy to use
  • analog devices would only be detected with Hauppauge devices, and only if they have WinTV installed. Unfortunately people have tried to shoehorn all sorts of other analog devices into this (installing SoftPVR and making changes to analog-devices.xml), but unfortunately this is a much more painful experience.

In summary, the easiest option if you really need analog, is to just get a Hauppauge device.

Go to Settings/Decoder/Video Decoders and try all Decoder until you find one that works, do the same with Audio Decoders

Maybe try reading post #2 of the sticky thread at the top of the support forum (linked in my signature also). I tried to lay out some of the basics of how this all works.

Within setting/decoder/video decoders I have the follow items listed.

1. Under Mpeg2 Video - the options are: Disabled, ArcSoft Video Decoder, and ATI MPEG Video Decoder
2. Under H 264 Video - the options are: Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder, ArcSoft Video Decorder, and ATI MPEG Video Decoder

With any of them selected - I still get a black screen.

I think you have a point here. But not regarding just analog. In seeing that I'm still unable to get NextPVR to work - I am starting to believe what I need is a Hauppauge device, instead of the Diamond tuner I am trying to use.

You need to install some codec, ArcSoft Video Decoder, and ATI MPEG Video Decoder should be working but they are not optimal.

And if you do a manual record, can you read the .ts file with another media player?

Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have a specific codec in mind? I tried one called Windows Essential codec this morning, and it was apparently malware.

Also, how could I do a manual record without being able to see what is being shown? Since I am only getting a black screen, I have not been able to determine which channels are good, and what aren't.

You need audio decoders too... it's not intuitive, but with no audio decoder, you often won't get video either. For US, you need mpeg-1 and ac3. Ac3filter will do both.
