Any concern with the number of repeated calls? Is that expected? Loop repeats every 11 seconds, 3 calls.

I have to believe that is both intensive on NPVR (to query db and generate XML), and on rPI to parse and process the XML.

Did I have ever mention that I don't really like the RPi or the PVR impmentation on Kodi? It is quite intensive and fat. I'd have to see your Kodi.log I certainly don't see that many calls.

For sure you need the OpenElec setting Wait for network with MySQL is that enabled?

Sub submitted these changes into xbmc/helix and they are now in the Helix 14.1 stream, I checked and they are in github for OpenElect now so I thought I'd build it and and seems to work

The kodi version is oldish but newer than 14.0, I will refresh this if anyone is interested.

Although this patch is in Helix 14.1 there is no RPi build just yet (other than mine above). However if you don't want a stable build the Milhouse nightly http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=...pid1911739 now contains the unofficial PR against 15.0 that sub submitted yesterday,
