Interesting. So a 9" cable does make a difference. I can't say the rainbow doesn't appear anymore, but watching Live TV and running a Video db update at the same time no longer results in an appearance of the square - it would with the 4ft cable. I judge both cables to be of "good" quality.

Must admit I had considered quality (gauge of cable and connector) but never the impact of increased resistance by cable length.

Good to know. Thx for the suggestion.

I am using an old iPhone Charger for my RPi2, with probably ~1m long (3') cable. I don't get any rainbow squares, but occasionally the thing seems to stall (hangs) and I have to restart it. It doesn't seem to buffer too much though (it did once or twice). I was interested in the RPi3, hoping I guess that the device is souped up enough to get past that annoying glitch. I will try a shorter USB cable first though.

domsamal Wrote:Took me a while to realise leaving a K400 keyboard dongle (used for setup) in the Pi was causing buffer, play, buffer play problems - presumably pushing the power drawn too high for the USB port.

I run a Rii Wireless KB, which if I read correctly above may also be drawing power, do you think this would contribute to the glitches/hangs? The RPi3 has BT but not Wifi, so will not help with my KB.

k.

I have tested with long and short over clocked now rpi2 never hangs and loads xnewa faster and menus are faster thsn my i3 pc
Its rock solid

Only reason i want the rpi3 is to run wifi on a tv i use on my deck outside so i only have to plug in power cable and its good to go.

UPDATE on rpi3 if anyone cares

Faster menus(without overclock)
sd card slot has no spring (good and bad depending on what you are doing its not broken)
powered with short micro usb cable no rainbow and runs fast and snappy (slightly faster at loading links in kodi)

I have Samsung, Lg and now a sony tv and the Sony tv has much faster cec response (tv remote control over hdmi to rpi)

All my testing is done running openelec and x-newa powered off tv usb with 300mm cable(this is the secret to maximum power to rpi)

You should probably look at an Odroid_XU4. http://www.hardkernel.com/main/products/...3452239825

A lot more get-up-and-go if multi-media is what you want. After owning one, I couldn't imagine ever getting a Pi.
