It works for me also - but only tested on the LAN. Haven't gone outside the network yet. Still, certainly shows a lot of potential. Good stuff.

djtaylor: I'm surprised that mp4 wasn't an option for transcoding.. I'll have to look into that. I suppose you could try another codec in the meantime.

I just tried streaming over the internet and it worked ok.. are you sure the streaming port is being forwarded to the GBPVR PC, and the port opened in the Windows Firewall if you're using it?

Do you have special settings on the vlc client or the vlc server ?

I can only play 20 seconds of the video before it freezes @ 150, the lowest setting.

Logged into another system (other than work) and was able to get the stream no problem. Does the video run over udp?

Nope, it's just streaming over HTTP, so just tcp going on.. i purposely set it up that way for maximum compatibility.. some firewalls block HTTP traffic on ports other than 80 (especially the ones at work Wink ) In that case, if you don't have a webserver running on your network then you could try using port 80 and see if it works in that case.

hmm... or port tunnelling comes to mind... i'll keep the getting-around-work-firewall scenario in mind while i play with the code..

and thanks for everyone for trying it out and continuing your feedback, i really appreciate it!

now that i've thought about it a bit, i will include an option to make the stream Windows Media Player-friendly.. that would solve the problem for IE users, and may help out the firewalled folks as well. And of course you could pick if you wanted to use this option or not (I will put all the config options on the web so you can configure everything remotely and easily)

This is local on the LAN and the firewall is turned off. I'll have another look soon, it was getting late.

Thanks for starting webStreamer!

I'm trying to get this to work. I installed vlc media player on the gbpvr machine and on my client computer. I installed firefox on my client computer.

I placed the files into the web folder.

I was able to login to .../gbpvr/stream.aspx

I selected the bandwidth setting to 150k (even though trying this over the LAN) and attempted playback file.

Firefox opens a new window and says I am missing a plugin. I clicked install missing plugin and it reports that it was unable to find the correct plugin and recommends i do it manually. I clicked find plugin manually but not sure what plugin to install.

What plugin do i need?

No playback was seen. I went to my gbpvr machine and in the Task Window, i can see that vlc.exe is using 99% cpu and about 45 megs of memory. The machine was completely unresponsive so I had to end the process.

Thanks for your help! I appreciate any help to get this working! I'm very excited.

David.

Thanks. Just tried reinstalling...it loaded up the buttons but no video is seen... (i waited for a bit too thinking it might be buffering?) i chose the 150k bandwidth just in case too. I wonder if something is wrong with my setup on my server end?

When I'm installing vlc media client on the server, are there any special settings i need to set?

Thanks
