I love the idea behind this program, but I'm having a small problem I hope you might be able to assist me with. I have DirecTV and therefor a good amount of channels and programs to search for images. The program runs fine for the first little bit until this happens:

C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\media\art\7 Days - looking for picture in local dir
ectory
Trying to find picture from epguides.com
Trying to find image for 7Days ...
Getting Response...
Response Description: OK
ERROR: There was an error saving image for 7 Days
Specified argument was out of the range of valid values.
Parameter name: size

After that occurs, the program slows to a crawl with each program taking 5-10 minutes. These look like this:

92
C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr\media\art\700 Club Special Programming - looking fo
r picture in local directory
Trying to find picture from epguides.com
Trying to find image for 700ClubSpecialProgramming ...
Getting Response...
Error trying to get cast.JPG for show700ClubSpecialProgramming...
The operation has timed out
Getting Response...
Error trying to get cast.GIF for show700ClubSpecialProgramming...
The operation has timed out
Getting Response...
Getting Response...
No image found for 700 Club Special Programming

This continues to happen on every program after I first get the error you see in the first program. Also, yesterday I was first getting the error on "24" and not "7 days", but I think that is because 24 is no longer in the guide as it was played last night (or this morning?).

Carlito,

This looks like a GREAT utility. I don't have a desire to see images in the EPG, but I suggest adding an option to the program to make it available for an additional use.

I use XRecord, which organizes recordings by folder. E.g., 1 single 'Seinfeld' folder contains all recordings of that show, and XRecord can display poster art for each folder. (It looks for the art in either the folder named for the show and file folder.jpg, or for <show-name>.jpg in the ...\gbpvr\art folder) [XRecord supposedly knows how to download folder art but it doesn't work and hasn't for a very long time. And I believe it tries only if you force it to do so from the menu. (And, fetching art is an ancillary function for XRecord, but the raison d'etre for ProgramImageTool.)]

I suggest adding to ProgramImageTool two command-line switches and the function to support them:
-- /Show "show-name" would check if the art already exists only for that single show and fetch it if not.

Using this switch, ProgramImageTool could be run in PostProcessing.bat after each recording is done and fetch the art if it doesn't already exist. Then the poster art would appear in the XRecord display immediately after a recording completes. Since it's fetching a single image (or none if it already exists), it would be minimal load on the system.

-- /Recordings would check all the folders in the gbpvr recordings directory, and fetch the art for each one that doesn't already have art. Using this switch, ProgramImageTool would probably be run, say, daily in PostUpdateEPG.bat. We're still talking probably at most dozens (different show titles that one has ever recorded), and then only those that don't already exist, so this too won't be much workload for our systems.

[If you were to consider only 1 of the 2 above, I'd suggest /Show.]

There is the additional question of where to put the poster art file once it's fetched. Everything would work just leaving things in \art as I presume you're doing now. Personally, I'd prefer it in the folder for the recordings of the show, so whenever I decide to purge the folders which no longer have recordings, the art would be deleted at the same time. However, others, particularly those who use the art in the EPG, probably prefer to have it in ...\gbpvr\art and let XRecord find it there. This could be addressed with 3 switches: /OutArtDir (the default for compatibility with your existing version), /OutShowDir (would put it in \<showname> in lieu of the \art folder), and /OutBoth.

[For the /Show and /Record switches I didn't suggest where to look for art to see if it already exists. If you implement the /Outxxx switches above, which directs where to put downloaded art, then you clearly would look in that place to see if the art already exists.]

Any consideration you'd give this will be appreciated. And, of course, actually implementing it would be REALLY, REALLY appreciated.

Cheers .... Bob

Can you try getting the latest version off of the wiki.
If it still continues to happen could you try running the app like this

ProgramImageTool.exe > Images.log

and post the Images.log file that it creates.

I'm pretty sure I could add some if not all of those requests. I may only allow storing of images in one area (ie, art folder OR show folder). It seems to only make sense to me to store files in one area and not make duplicates.

I wont' be able to work on this for a few days but I will let you know my progress.

Wow! Thanks for responding so quickly. I have tried to answer your questions below. Thanks again!

David

Carlito Wrote:Can you try getting the latest version off of the wiki.

After it failed to run 3 times this morning I downloaded the zip file again (this morning), extracted it to the C:\Program Files\devnz\gbpvr directory and tried to run it again. That was the 4th failure.

Carlito Wrote:If it still continues to happen could you try running the app like this

Do you mean that I should use this command in the command prompt? If so I tried it and got the same result. The error message that showed up in the command prompt is at the end of this message.

Carlito Wrote:Is there any more information in the windows event log?

The information I posted in my original message was from the windows event log. should have there been more? If so where should I look?

OK, attached is the log file per your request. I stopped it after about 2.5 hours of running. You'll see the error on show #61. I redownloaded the program today so I assume that is the newest version.

Have you installed the CommonGBPVRUtilities off of the wiki?
I'm not sure if i have that listed as a requirement on the wiki. If not I will update the wiki
