If it is an x64 system you probably should use .\windows\SYSWOW64\regsvr32.exe <filename of decoder>.ax

im pretty sure it works on 64bit systems
just has to be in the right place

I'll give it a go.

Reddwarf Wrote:And BTW, most codecs called AAC is actually HE-AAC, so set the appropiate decoder there also (in Settings->Decoders). For Monogram you need to run .\windows\system32\regsvr <filename>.ax

Apologies Reddwarf for not reading your post more closely and Stustunz for pointing it out.

Codec now registered . The Monogram AAC codec now appears in settings\decoders. Selected it for HE-AAC but unfortunately I got the same result. NPVR goes non-responsive and is using 33% of the CPU. It created \temprec and wrote approx 25mb. No disc activity now. .logs.zip attached

Just launched NPVR and tried to run 'watch'. Got a 'device failed to start'.

Ignore this post I got it wrong.

Another success! If I launch NPVR and then Live TV I get ...Please wait... for about 10 seconds and then it just sits there. If however I first run 'file open' \playback, stop the playback when I have video and audio, and then run Live TV I get audio but a blank screen and still no video. I can't change channels.

This sequence of actions also works for 'watch' instead of Live TV, i.e. audio but no video. If I then carry-on and run Live TV I get audio but no video.

can you try doing a recording from the epg (tv guide) record for 1min or so then cancel it
then go to recording and play the recording you just did
does it make a file
does it play ?

change your h264decoder from arcsoft to cyberlink XXX

This is what I have done.
Scheduled a recording and put the computer to sleep. Result: file created but empty.
Changed ‘Settings\Decoders’ to Cyberlink H.264/AVC Decoder (PCM45)
Scheduled a recording but kept NPVR running. Result: file created and programme recorded. Playback gave me a green screen with audio. Playback with PowerDVD9 gave me video and audio.
Recorded via EPG. Result: file created. Playback gave video and audio i.e. it worked!

you can also select something to record in the tv guide then go back into the same program and select watch ie watch recording in progress

the green screen has been evr renderer i have found in the past try switching to vmr9 (you can change it back after if it doesnt do anything as evr should give you the best picture on a vista machine)
also if you have any other cyberlink decoders that show up under the h264 try them also
sometimes its just a matter of going through all the combinations of renderes/ decoders till you get something that works well with your hardware

Thanks for the advice. I still have the issue with Live TV (and EPG/Watch) whereby I get audio but no video. I have tried all the combinations of renderer/decoder without success.

I suspect its related to this 'CyberLink H.264/AVC Decoder (PCM45)' decoder. I only really use the ArcSoft H.264 decoder in my testing.
