Just wanted to say, that nPVR is currently working like charme on my ION. LiveTV runs since 24h without interrupting, stopping or something like this. This is great! Only on my Main PC there are some problems left, but these are decoderrelated.

Ok, Sorry. It's really the ability to not miss shows because it's recording stuff I've already seen.
Well, to not fill up my hard disk with stuff I've already seen for that matter.

Constantly correcting conflicts deleting stuff you've seen already is a pain.

Half the stuff I want to watch is in the two hour window of prime-time. So Yes, I have priorities but I would much rather it record a second favorite rerun that I've never seen before then my number one favorite show that I've already seen. Heck even my 50th favorite that I've not seen would be better.

I fully understand this is your pvr and you can take it in what ever direction you wish. But sheesh. To me recording stuff you want to see this is the reason for having a pvr in the first place.

One problem is that there is only one (AFAIK) EPG source for 1 or 2 countries that can produce information on shows you have already recorded.

Hi Martint123.

I'm not sure I understand what your getting at. Could you give me an example or some more information as to how the EPG source has something to do with it?

I was thinking the only way to do this was to remember the shows that were recorded into a database then remove the ones already record prior to scheduling new recordings.

The EPG supplied by Schedules Direct has a field that contains a unique ID for each show and episode. This is created by them rather than the broadcasters and I guess is manually created (or checked). It was this unique ID that GBPVR used to prevent recording duplicates.
There is insufficient data in most other EPG's to uniquely identify a show. I think it is just the US and Canada that is served by Schedules Direct.

I have just done a clean install on Windows 7 32 bit and encountered the following error during install.
"Datadirectory registry setting does not appear to be set correctly"
This was followed by a number of other pop up messages.
NPVR appears to work despite the error messages on install.

Ok, Interesting. But it's not like that matters that much.

Let's look at it, Let's say for some reason sub would have to absolutly use Unique ID 100% of the time in order to make this feature work. Your suggesting that it's not a good idea to do it because not everone could use it. But that's just not a presedence that GB-PVR has used in the past. Sub has lot's of features that are not usefull to ALL the people that use his product. Veriouse Hardware Cards, IR Blasters, MVP, PAL, Heck even Schedules Direct isn't used by everyone. So clearly new features do not have to be used by everyone.

Still, Unique ID is not 100% required to make this work. Show-Name + Epasode-Name would work for most shows. Would have to look more closely at the Unique ID but setting it to zero if it's not available then using Show-Name + Epasode-Name + Unique ID may work and then he would have only one simple select statment.

It's not like this is a big deal. This is a very simple feature. Heck when selecting the shows to record it's a single SQL statment to delete the duplicates. But it would intail creating a new screen to maintenance the "Watched" list since TV Stations sometimes play what's not scheduled. Still, A screen to delete a record from a database is about the simplest screen one can make.

We learnt a long time ago that you cant use 'Show-Name + Episode-Name' to determine if shows are unique. The vast majority of EPG sources around the world just give the same generic descriptions for 90% of their shows, so the applications would just they assume they've been recorded in the past.

Pretty much the only way you'd get this type of functionality is using these identifiers supplied by Schedules Direct, or making sure that you're recording in a timeslot that only carries new episodes.
