Right, had to move the mmaacd.ax file out of the system32 area the instructions I found said to put it in to get it to load, but I now have a MONOGRAM AAC Decoder option, which I've selected. Tried live TV but just get a black screen and no sound, not that I know I ever got anything else, I don't use the server to watch TV, it does the same with SD. Tried recording, then watching and I get a picture, but still no sound. Not too worried about that though, my priority is getting sound on the PCH. Reading back through the forums it looks like Syabas have been promising HE-AAC support on the A100 for at least two years, and the later microcode supports it, but for reasons that are probably very valid they are choosing not to include it.

So......I tried transcoding the recorded program with vlc, and despite setting the audio I want it to output it doesn't transcode the audio, just removes it (mediainfo confirms), so it's time to start learning about transcoding. Off to the PCH forums for me, but I'll post back here if I find anything........or just ebay the a100 and build a HTPC now there's a client mode for NPVR.

Daft question - did you try it with the included TVCentre app?

Not so daft but yep, and it plays perfectly. I've tried vlc on a npvr recording file on a linux box now and it transcodes the audio perfectly, so I'll bung a linux VM on my server and attempt some scripting to do something automagically , it looks like that as it's only doing audio it takes no more than a couple of minutes to trancscode each recording.

Try watching the recording, then post the npvr.log and I'll take a look.

Can you upload a 100MB sample to megaupload or mediafire for my collection. Even if I can't get it to play on the A100 it helps for the future. I'll see with VLC too.

The first thing I'd try is setting the audio renderer back to 'Default'. You have 'Speakers (Realtek High Definiti' selected, and we've seen this lead to frozen playback before. If that doesnt help, it might be worth setting the audio decoders other than HE-AAC to 'Disabled' (AC3, MPEG1 Layer II etc).

Cheers sub, forgotten I'd changed it to see if it made a difference, changed back, disabled all the others and still no sound, log attached.

Martin, sample recording here http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3D41QDBT

Thanks for the sample, I will keep it for testing. As expected it does play fine with audio on the C200 but I am surprised you can't transcode it. I used my normal transcode http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...post351736 and I had no problem with sync or sound on the A100
