back to the original what am I doing now....

I figured I would never post in this thread unless I was at least buzzed. I was correct. I'm buzzed.

I've just finished a second glass of scotch. I'm watching Three Sheets on Hulu (coincidentally, I'm watching the Scotland episode, where the host just got to taste the 50-year old Glenfiddich which costs $10,000 per bottle!.... damn, what a job to have, travel around the world and drink!). I'm getting really pissed because every other commercial is Obama pimping for the useless waste of space Barbara Boxer (I guess Hulu knows I'm in California). I will be so happy when the election is over tomorrow. I've given up the notion that I will be happy with the results here, and just want it done with. All hail Moonbeam!

Added donate link to the wiki also, hope that's ok.

How much do you need at the moment? Perhaps it would be wise to display something like a progressbar on the homepage, like "hostingcosts this month: $$$ 123,45 / received payments: 22 %". Anything above 100% is uninteresting for us. Perhaps this could animate the one or other guy to spent a few bucks.

As usual you are truly gentlemanly. I too was very happy to see the donate button come back. It was quite amusing (sorry Sub Big Grin ) to see the whole thing happen. It got big and small and then the whole forum header changed shape  Brilliant, was one of those moments I am glad I was there for!

I believe Sub is on the very understated side (humble side) but I think something like this would really help. I think those forums where they list contributors are not helpful but something like a 'Church Fund' target may help to show how much of Sub's time/effort and investment in (unfortunately, but that is how the world works) COSTS of running something like this project really are.

I do think often some new users do not realise that this whole thing is what we all know it is. A free software (that outperforms every paid for software) with the best community on the internet. I could go on but then I could get even more boring Wink

*hehe*

Donated a few minutes before, not as much as i wanted too, but my bank account says: "oh my god, don't touch me. Shining is a bad guy!". 2 birthdays this month, next month christmas ( i need a biiiig xmas tree ). ^^; Ok, also i tried to read this thread with the "babelfish-translator" and i had to laugh... what a bad translation. At least do i know now, that "sub" is a "submarine" *suspect*

steeb, thank you for your kindly words. Smile

So, what do i do now... waiting, that my server finally does the last recording, so that i can make some logs for sub. While waiting, i do rip my dvd collection (again); thanks to the crap from seagate... (bought 11x seagate barracuda 7200.11 1.5 TB within 1 year, and 10 of them died, no wonder that these harddisks are now sold for around 60 EUR in germany: it's crap deluxe. I think, since seagate bought maxtor, the quality of seagate products wents straight down). But, no problem. I am currently very happy with the Wester Digital 2.0 TB Black Caviar. Fast, silent, performant an no problems (ok, the first format takes 37h... but it's ok, so i could identify any surface problem on the harddisk; quick format ist not recommendable, because with this the surface will not be tested).
Last but not least... if i "secure" my media within this speed, i could be finish at christmas this year... *chatt*

EDIT1: Watching RoboCop

EDIT2: For christmas i want a present from sub: The ability to ban users (and delete their signature) after registration...

Yes to that. I'd love to be able to ban someone just for registering with a spam signature or personal message. I know it's meaningless of course, if they don't post anything then no one will ever see them anyway. But it would give me the satisfaction.

Yeah, i feel exactly the same. Because of this i started to write something in their profiles... XD

At topic
Playing around with the new cablestar hd 2. I am deeply impressed how good sub implemented these kind of digital devices within nPVR. Just great, nearly "Plug & Play"

And i am hungry. oO

Just enjoying (hah!) getting back into some programming and have started to work on my visual movie browser plugin again. I've discovered that a great deal of it looks like it will be doable via skinning alone, so kudos once again to sub for building such a great environment for plugins to live in.

Progress is slow though, not least because Ember isn't returning metadata for some reason, so I've nothing other than images to work with for now.
