It is just for a test. From earlier in the tread it sounded like there was some possibility of success with 8 instead of 9.

I went ahead and pulled the video card out of the box I was struggling with and put it in another slightly more powerful box. This newer box still could not run HD with the onboard graphics but not runs it flawlesslly with the 8400 card. It is working even without any dxva capable decoders. I guess it is just the crappy HP machine.

Unlocked SAF5 using latest PDVD 10 decoders. I don't have older one.
I doubt revision 8 fix any of your issues.

At least with older cards and CPUs, I've come to the conclusion NVidia drivers are optimized a little more for Intel CPUs vs AMDs. It might be the use of the special instructions sets (like SSE2, etc) that's doing it. So I'm curious - what was the second of the two boxes you tried it in?

In any event, you might try NVidia's PureVideo decoder. I've had really tremendous results using it with older AMD CPUs and NVidia graphic cards. Using an AMD 2500+ I was getting CPU usage from 15-30% playing back 1080i HD - no other decoder got close. It's not free but it has a trial period that will let you see if it's worth your time. http://www.nvidia.com/object/dvd_decoder.html

This is an AMD 3600+ with 3 gb ram. A lot more powerful than my last rig I was testing.
New problem. HD looks pretty good. I have some audio sync issues that I need to look into, but my main problem now is SD recordings. They play back like this
[ATTACHMENT NOT FOUND]
I have tried all my codecs and changed desktop resolution without any change. Anyone have an idea of what setting I am missing? Config is set to 16:9 and as I said, the HD recordings look fine.

That was it! I did not think XP could use EVR so I did not even try it. Then I set up AC3 filter for some time sync shift and the sound is now in sync. I think I am really close now. Thanks!

you dont get hardware acceleration with evr and xp
i was looking at your signature and you said you were on vista so figured you would be right
im using ffdshow and evr on xp with great results (lip sync is out a little at times) very low cpu usage
so since you are doing HD also you might have issues with that and evr if using xp
