Problems setting up live tv on nextpvr

Do you have a specific codec in mind?

Many of us use SAF to install all the decoders that are needed. Send a forum private message to Hoborg to get the unlocked version that has "best" decoders.

Plus ... try and get recording and playback working before you try Live TV. You can click on a program in the Guide and do a Quick Record.

Do you have a specific codec in mind? I tried one called Windows Essential codec this morning, and it was apparently malware.

Also, how could I do a manual record without being able to see what is being shown? Since I am only getting a black screen, I have not been able to determine which channels are good, and what aren't.

K-Lite will add most codecs you need for any player. Some say it conflict with SAF6.
I use MainConcept(HCW) MPEG-2 Video Decoder but I don't remember where it came from!

Your recording should be where you specify in Settings/Recording/Recording Directories
You can try to play them (*.ts) with Windows Media Player or VideoLan Player or Media Classic Player that comes with K-Lite Standard or Full

Thanks to all for their time and assistance.

Due to Skydrive compatibility problems, TV media center problems, recent Whea Uncorrectable error problems that have developed since I've been trying to get NextPVR to work, etc. on my Windows 8.1 Pro Desktop - I have concluded it might be best in the long run to take the plunge and return to/reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium on this system.

Thus, until all the basics is set up again, NextPVR installation and setup will have to be put on hold. ... Hopefully, the process of installing NextPVR in Windows 7 will be smoother.

In several respects, Win7 is better for NPVR, the most significant being that the included Microsoft DTV/DVD decoder can be used by NPVR (this is blocked in Win8). This decoder works very well for US TV. You will need to download an AC3 audio decoder, many of us use and recommend AC3 Filter. Easy to install and pretty much works out of the box. Set the MPEG2 video decoder to MS DTV/DVD, the AC3 and MPEG1 audio decoder to AC3 Filter. All others to disabled. Video renderer to EVR and audio renderer to default.

If you have a digital TV, you should be able to scan for digital channels and find the clear QAM. My cable system has the clear channels on about 10 channels, with many of the standard definition broadcast channels available on both analog and digital. My clear QAM is on 18.1, 18.3, 77.1, 103.1, 110.1 etc. The "cable channels" like CNN, TNT, etc are not in clear QAM, but may be available on analog on your system. Perhaps the SiliconDust website may help you ID the channels.

Hi, I'm back. Windows 7 is now installed and so far I have been able to get my Clear QAM stations working.

The things I would still like to do is to get my analog stations working since there are a few stations there are a few not available vis Clear QAM. Also, I want to get EPQ and the TV Guide set up.

I also need to figure out how to record TV Shows, Movies, etc.

No doubt, instructions for doing some of the above is available online. I just have not had time yet to review everything.

Any recommendations/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
