I was under the impression that NRecord didn't start keeping the machine awake until the recording actually started, but that may be wrong or outdated.

yes, if you're keeping the machine awake from the wakeup time forward, then the second wakeup 30 seconds later will solve the issue.

This is many years after the previous post in this thread. I'm using NextPVR V4.2.5 (191014).

NPVR is set to wake 90 seconds before the recording. I looked at "powercfg /sleepstudy" and the PC went to sleep 84 seconds before the recording, just after it was supposed to wake up. This is the same problem as described in this thread, and apparently there has been no update to address it? For example, there was no second NPVR wakeup request 30 seconds later.

I will try setting WakeupPreRecordingSeconds to 0, but I'm nervous that could also cause the recording to fail?

As indicated in the thread NextPVR sets two wake timers, we'd likely see that if you had posted logs. If you add a long padding check the hidden Windows unattended sleep setting to make sure it long enough.

I'm sorry, but I'm new to this and I didn't follow all of the discussion.  I dropped the log where it says "Drop files here to upload" but I don't see any indication that it uploaded.

I do see two wakeup requests in the log:

2021-03-19 20:40:02.563 [DEBUG][9] Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID990-backup' at 3/19/2021 8:58 PM
2021-03-19 20:40:02.563 [DEBUG][9] Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID990' at 3/19/2021 8:57 PM
2021-03-19 20:40:02.563 [DEBUG][9] Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID994-backup' at 3/19/2021 8:58 PM
2021-03-19 20:40:02.563 [DEBUG][9] Requesting wake up for 'RecordingOID994' at 3/19/2021 8:57 PM

My system went to sleep at 8:58:23 according to "powercfg /sleepstudy", so after the backup wake request.

The shows were programmed with 1 minute pre-padding, so the computer went to sleep 37 seconds before the recordings would have started at 8:59 PM.

My "unattended sleep timeout" is currently set to 2 minutes.  I'm not sure how this makes a difference or what to set it to?

We had watched and deleted another recording just before the missing recordings:

2021-03-19 20:39:50.393 [DEBUG][94] GetExtraInfo@exit
2021-03-19 20:40:02.211 [DEBUG][94] DeleteRecording(982)
2021-03-19 20:40:02.211 [DEBUG][94] DeleteRecording@1
2021-03-19 20:40:02.211 [DEBUG][94] Cancelling wake up request for for 'RecordingOID982'
2021-03-19 20:40:02.211 [DEBUG][94] Cancelling wake up request for for 'RecordingOID982-backup'
2021-03-19 20:40:02.211 [DEBUG][94] -removing: D:\Recordings\Jeopardy!\Jeopardy!.S37E125.ts
2021-03-19 20:40:02.547 [DEBUG][94] DeleteRecording@2

Shortly after this we powered off the system, probably at 8:43:23 PM.  The system has a 15 minute "sleep after" setting.

It seems to me that there is still a 1 minute window in between the backup wakeup and the time the recordings should have started, and that's when the system went to sleep.

It's not clear to me what, other than WakeupPreRecordingSeconds, what I can set to resolve this issue?  And, isn't setting WakeupPreRecordingSeconds to 0 a risk?

It only accepts zipped logs. Maybe you tried to upload an individual file rather than the zip?

Try setting it to something larger like 10 minutes.

In theory your PC shouldn't be going to sleep in that one min between 8:57 and 8:58, but even if it did, when the machine wakes at 8:58 it should start recording immediately, and that should be enough to keep your machine awake.

Yes, I didn't zip the log file.  Thanks.  I did this time.

This is the time line:

8:40:02  Deleted Jeopardy after watching it on NextPVR
8:43:23  Exited NextPVR GUI, turned off TV
8:57:00  First wake-up (the system was already awake at this time)
8:58:00  Backup wake-up (the system was still already awake at this time)
8:58:23  System went to sleep after 15 minutes of inactivity
8:59:00  Recordings were supposed to start at this time (9:00 PM shows with 1 minute pre-padding)

My system didn't go to sleep in between the two wake-ups.  It went to sleep after both of them.  I don't think the unattended sleep setting enters into the discussion.  The sleep was triggered by 15 minutes of inactivity after finishing watching and deleting a different recording.

It seems to me there is a 1 minute window where the computer can go to sleep and recordings be missed.  The backup wake-up can't be earlier than the pre-padding or there will be this window.

Has anyone considered using SetThreadExecutionState() in NextPVR while a recording is pending?

It doesn't really need two wake ups. Nothing is happening between them. It's just there because some users wanted the ability took in their own wakeup.bat script a bit before the recording was due to start.

As long as your machine actually wakes for the second wake, which is at pre-padding time when the recording is due to start, then the recording should start.

The question is really why has your machine gone back to sleep so quickly?

The application never seemed to have got a notification from windows at of the wakeup at 8:58. It's almost like it was still busy trying to go to sleep from the 8:57 one, and never got back into a going state before being properly woken much later.

Neither of the two wakes caused any action to take place. My system was already awake from using it about 15 minutes earlier. There were no wake events to use as triggers.

My system was already awake for both of the wakes. More importantly, the second wake was 1 minute before the pre-padding time. It was in between the second wake and the pre-padding time the computer went to sleep.
