I gave up using npvr client long ago but I did some testing today. I donæt get the "the tuner you were using..." message but my client freezes every time I change channel in live tv. Also I get random freezes during live tv just watching. So the only reliable way to change channel for the moment is to go back to the tv guide and select another channel.

This thread isn't about client/server setups. It's just a regular single machine setup.

DrBoost, your problem is happening due to a long unexpected detail in the frontend when switching to the new file.

Specifically, the problem bit of log is the 28 seconds it's taking between these two steps:

2016-02-19 06:42:04.211 [DEBUG][1] SwitchToStream@3
2016-02-19 06:42:34.129 [DEBUG][1] SwitchToStream@4

This causes the recording service to think your frontend is no longer using the tuner (like it's crashed, or been killed or something).

It's not really clear why your machine would be taking so long at this step of the process. We could try collecting some more info though. Try creating a C:\Temp directory, and set HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\NPVR\Wow6432Node\ LogSlipFile=1 (DWORD) in the registry, then reboot (to reset the logs), then reproduce the problem, then post your full set of logs again, along with the extra c:\temp\reader.log file. This will hopefully give us a little more insight into what is happening during that big delay.

I don't even know what it means to set *what you wrote* in the registry. I'm a total novice to programming, or writing scripts. For that reason I decided to download JRiver Media Center. The channel switching thing isn't the only issue with NPVR, the guide doesn't update automatically, or when it's assigned to, and it locks up now and again. I don't want to ask for that much of you folks' time. You don't owe me anything and I don't want to be a pain.
I may or may not keep JRiver (I'm on a 30-day free trial) because I can use NPVR with KODI.
