Transcoding DivX -- how to configure / what to install?

I had exactly the same error. Unset the ffdshow setting and hey presto...works !! Thanks..saved me hours of trying to work that one out.
Though I shoudl say that not all avi files play (the screen goes blan and then you go back to the video selection). But something is better than nothing !! :eek:

That was a useful analysis MVPAAAGH, and underscores a point I've been
trying to make in this thread for some time, namely that unless SUB is able
to gain access to Hauppauge's transcoding API and modify his code
accordingly, the GB-PVR AVI support is simply not useful for most people
and video files.

The Hauppauge (MainConcept) MPEG encoder is a _real-time_ encoder. If
it is being used in a way that people with 2.66GHz machines can't get real-time
encoding then this is a major problem. In my opinion, AVI support is now solely
a plug-in issue. Someone needs to step forward and integrate GB-PVR with
other real-time MPEG encoders.

Its actually working quite well for me on my own setup, and I dont really have any doubts about how I'm using the Hauppauge MainConcept encoder.

Itw working well for me on my 2.2GHz P4 test machine. This spec processor is easily able to encode in real time, but you dont want to try introducing ffdshow image transformations or the processor requirements will quickly rise.

A small remark on mvpaaagh testing, in test 6 you said that you test "Hauppauge MVP software and FFDSHOW codec " this can not be true because the only codec that the Hauppauge software uses in the divx codec from divx.com. you can not configure it to use a other and if you deinstall de divx codec it just does not run. This also explains why the ffdshow settings don't work. I to wanted to use the ffdshow (or divx codec with vobsub) because of subtitling but that also is a no go. Hauppauge uses a fix graph to perform the real-time transcoding, probably that's also why there solution is more stable but way less flexible. The only thing that worries my about the gb-pvr solution is that there is no interaction between the transcoding part and the play part, this makes functions like resume (after stop), fast-forward etc impossible to implement.
I'm not complaining because on my setup avi play back is fine, even with subtitle on in ffdshow, the only thing is that I need to watch the movie in one go, but thats what I do must of the time any way :-)

Hi Martin,
I am pretty sure I uninstalled DIVX before running test 6. I can certainly try it again. Other than uninstalling DIVX is there any way to be sure the codec is gone?
