I don't really use the browser to play back.

For me, the only significant missing ingredient is a frontend for my appleTV that can play back in-progress recordings capably. Not replacing the AppleTV though - I've done RPi and Fire TV and the only thing I like about them is that I can install Kodi. The only thing I don't like about the AppleTV is that I can't install Kodi.

AFAIK you can install it https://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Install_Ko...HD_and_4K) with the "Generate Kodi IPA file from deb file" option This tool makes the weekly updates pretty easy https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=245978 If you can install NextPVR on your mac this shouldn't be too hard.

I will try and do this before I shutdown the hackintosh. I might as well test Piers while I am here.

The advantage of UI clients over Kodi for in progress is in-process comskip loads and you can use the thumbs too. It is a bit much for the FTV though.

As a followup to my last post, installing Kodi on tvOS is actually easier than I remembered, probably because I already had the signing certificates. I decided to upgrade from macOS 14.6 to 15.2 which delayed my response. At the same time I thought I'd follow the wiki since it had been a while but I would suggest the following changes.

- First note that installing Xcode 16 is required for tvOS 18 so your macOS must be 14.5 or higher

- I would wait to download and install "iOS App Signer" in "Generate Kodi IPA file from deb" after step 6 where it needed. Following the wiki is wrong ecause the current releasee on GitHub 1.1.4 won't work with Xcode 16. You need to go to https://github.com/DanTheMan827/ios-app-...h%3Amaster and download the release created by automation. Click the topmost button and download the release artifact. You have to be signed to to GitHub to get it but if anyone wants it I can download it here if needed.

- I would change the order and move "Connect your device" inside "Generate Kodi IPA file from deb" file between steps 4 and 5. It will take a bit of time the first time you connect to transfer info from your Apple TV.

- During the "Install Kodi on your Apple TV" the Apple TV will so a progress circle and when completed that will be the Kodi icon.

It is a bit of work the firs time but weekly updates are much easier, you basiclally just need to to resign the source deb file, connect you device if it doesn't show in the list and transfer the ipa file.
