sgilani, please please please make it possible to use webstreamer even if you have installed vlc and gbpvr in ANY folder. otherwise people with non-english Windows will have trouble and I have been waiting so long for a streaming solution like this...

Smile

Thanx

Even with the current build, webStreamer works no matter which folder your stuff is installed in. It doesn't care at all where GBPVR is installed because it fetches the recordings from GBPVR's API functions, and you set the location of VLC in the webStreamer.xml file.

Please make sure that the config file points to the correct location for VLC on your system.

If it still is giving you trouble, please report back with what's going on and any error messages you might be getting; I'd be happy to help and get it working for you.

As for VLC plugin not showing up in Firefox, as long as you make sure you choose to install the Mozilla plugin when you install VLC, it should work fine. Hopefully a lot of these problems will go away in the next build when you can choose a VLC stream or a WindowsMedia stream (which sends shivers down my spine because I dont like WMV, but at least it'll work well especially for IE users Wink )

Hi Sarmad, I verified that VLC is directed to the correct location on in the webstreamer.xml file (that's on the server). I made sure i installed the Mozilla plugin and ActiveX plugin when i installed VLC on the client computer. I've tried launching an internal viewer and external viewer but neither methods play audio or video.

No error msgs were given either. Sad

I got an error message!!! "Error -2048: the file is not a movie file." I got this message after i tried spawning the movie with Quicktime .mp4 (default) instead of using vlc.exe.

works great but it's giving me a whole bunch of shows i have deleted long ago and assorted other files i don't have anymore..had to look to find a file that was actually still here to watch but then it worked great Smile
yes, configurable vlc lines will be great..and i'm pretty sure you can stream it to IE and Mplayer without using WMV, it plays all sorts of streams..
with vlc you can stream an avi,a mpeg,whatever..using mms or udp or http or tcp...[too bad no rtsp yet!]
so hope you leave it open enough for us to play with those..
[they all have their ups n downs..]
and for compatability's sake and less to install on the road, it will be great to be WMP friendly..[that way no problems with plugin configs, etc]

also, windows media encoder can stream like VLC so was wondering if you could leave it open enough for that to be used instead....[ultra easy to config and has command line interface..] [just a thought..]

so will you be integrating this into the regular web interface? so we can hit play on a show in our 'recordings' section and have the option to stream it?

oh and seems to play fine while timeshifting a show on main pc...Smile
[p41800] but only at 256k max on mine...more hpower and 512k or lan should work.. [so it won't totally cripple pc user, while watching from road]
but i did see a glitch on main system while starting it up, may want to launch vlc with a 'below normal' priority just to make sure it doesn't overtax the main machine..
it shouldn't slow it down any unless the power is needed on main system..but may be good where it's at..

i'll try to nail down some alternative streaming methods [codecs, encapsulations] that will work natively with most compatibility...
i should be able to get a slider to go with the controls even in ie..
i used to have a nice formula for streaming around but it's been a while...
[pages with embedded players with all controls and such]
i'll see what i can dig up that might be of help..
excellent work tho Smile love the way it kills vlc when you close player..

I noticed that too, as well as future recordings too.

What do you think the processor requirements (if any) are for this application? It's stuttering on playback at 150k (over LAN). Instead of mp4v, what are the other options that may not require as much cpu power?

Thanks Smile Great app!

I've noticed the glitch with recordings.. I'll be sure to fix that. What are your system specs? mp4 really shouldn't take much CPU power, the first thing to try is to increase the buffer size in the XML file. As a test, set it at 10000 and see if it fixes the stuttering problem.

Also, if you experience some stutter on the GBPVR PC when you're playing a stream, then try running GBPVR as a 'AboveNormal' priority; it might help out. On my setup, my GBPVR runs as AboveNormal and VLC stays at Normal, and it seems to work ok.. but it all depends on your specific setup; just play with the settings and see if you can get it right for your setup.

Edit: I just thought of a potential problem... the ASP.NET session might time-out while you watch your recording.. in that case, when you try to Exit the player, it won't kill the VLC.exe process and will greet you with a login page.. my next build will prevent this from happening.

After setting it to 10000 from 1000, audio stuttering disappeared but video stuttering persisted. No difference when I set VLC to BelowNormal or kept it at Normal and with gbpvr set at Normal or AboveNormal. I also changed audio to mp3 and it seems to have made it a bit better. I checked network utilzation it wasn't very high.

My gbpvr machine is very slow, it's a P3 700mhz with 512mb ram. I guess there's no hope.

Yah, it seems like vlc.exe seems to keep running even after i've clicked exit and I'm not able to start another streaming session.

Thanks Smile

Yeah, unfortunately it sounds like your machine just isn't up to it.. I would still try playing around with the settings and see if you can get decent results.

I'm concerned about vlc.exe still being open.. can you 1) make sure there are no vlc.exe processes, and then 2) launch the streamer, start playing something and then Exit, and see if the vlc.exe process is killed or not.
