Well, what I think it is, is a plugged vent. Lint gets past the screen & starts to collect on the vent pipe opening outside. The rain & such just makes it collect more.

It starts to block the exhaust so the dryer heats up rather quickly then over heats & the thermostat kicks it off.

I only ask because I spent 3 days after work at my parents kicking their dryer & swapping parts (including the thermostat).

I don't know why, but I Looked out the basement window & noticed a blob on the exhaust cover.
Went out & sure enough it was almost completly blocked with rock hard lint.

I then returned thermostat & bought a new lint trap.
Problem solved.

My parents had pipe.
I went flexitube but only because my dryer is on the first floor & I wanted to be able to get behind it regularly for cleaning & pipe would of been a pain to keep reconnecting.

I just remembered a dryer I that came with an apartment I lived in would also get clogged and cause it to turn off. The maintenance guy said birds would nest on the exhaust vent on the roof.

I voluntarily ban myself from stores when I get horrible service or I disagree with their business practices on moral ground. I tell management and write a letter, then never step foot in any of their stores.

The list: TGI Friday's, Target, Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Applebees

If I might put a plug in for CC, they matched a price for me on a set of gaming headphones (no, I didn't buy a warranty, but who would on a 40.00 set of headphones). Wink

I've had to grit my teeth several times in Best Buy and other places when I see the Monster Cable push. But thats where the money is, the accessories and the warranties. The credit card companies do it all the time, and so do the car dealerships. I just make sure to educate my parents and siblings so they don't get taken.

I tend to go to WalMart and get my cables (usually Phillips or whatever, LOL). I've purchased one monster cable in my life, and although the build quality was fantastic, I couldn't tell a difference in the output for the life of me.

We should actually thank those who buy the monster cables for subsidizing our purchases. The high margins on the warranties and accessories are what allow retailers like BBuy to keep the prices on the other stuff low.

That said, I tell people to avoid the high margin/low value stuff as well.

My favorite Big Box experience was the salesman telling me that the 'red guns' on plasma TV's tend to go out and that is why I need an extended warranty. I tried to tell him that a plasma is not a CRT and has no 'red guns' but he stuck to his story.

I ban stores too. TGI Friday's and Applebees are on my list as well as Taco Bell (food poisioning twice in two different countries), Chilis, Denny's (after going there at least once a week for years), Red Lobster, Circuit City (recently broken after about 5 years to buy my girfriend a Xmas gift) and anything made by Symantec.

I have seen tons of negative press about Applebees lately. They were teetering on the edge of bankruptcy until they were recently purchased by IHOP. I was a regular customer but the last two times I went there I walked out after waiting for a waitress for over 15 minutes. Never went back.
