I'll give the AMD HDMI audio renderer a try and report back. I'll sort out a TS file too.

Have noticed that the problem does not occur on an older non HD .TS recording.

OK, This is weird!!!

Over the past few months my system has undergone many NPVR uplifts, many Windows 10 patches and has been re-booted many times. It is used every day (particularly by the "better half") to record and playback many programmes. There are no fancy add-ons like comskip. It's just basic record / playback of SD and HD UK programmes.

The one thing that has been consistent through it all has been the odd skip behaviour (i.e. you skip, the audio skips, the video jumps and goes into Fast forward, then slow motion then catches up with the audio. Sometimes on skip the video would freeze but audio continued)

The only thing I've not played around with is renderer and codec settings and they've been left at Default.

Last night I changed the audio renderer from default to AMD HDMI as I'm using the HDMI output to my TV. The skipping problem seemed to go away.

This morning I've changed the setting back to Default and this is the wierd bit, I can't get the skipping problem to reoccur.

I've tried about 20 different recordings from different channels and now all are skipping correctly.

This is wierd. I hate mysteries like this. It's as if switching the renderer to AMD HDMI and back has changed something under the covers.

I'll leave the settings back on default and update you if we can get another re-occurence of the problem.

The TS Reader you posted in 02-04-2018 fixed the skipping problems for me in both 404 and 405 versions. It only had this problem with certain channels but all appear to be working correctly now. Thank you.

Yeah, that's weird. It's still good to hear it's working better for you now.

Have you rebooted since then? It'll be interesting to hear if the problem comes back.

Well Windows patching forced an automatic reboot today.....and the skipping problem hasn't returned.

I've been working with computers for a VERY long time ( and an NPVR user since the early GBPVR days) and these unexplained things really bug me.

As I'm not the only one whose had this sort of skipping problem it's really weird that simply switching the audio renderer to the AMD HDMI option and back to default fixes the issue. It's almost as if the initial display of "Default" as the current renderer setting in the Settings menu wasn't actually what it was under the covers.

Food for thought

Yeah, it's pretty odd. I'm glad it's still working for you, even after a reboot.

When it's 'Default' NextPVR uses the "Default DirectSound Device" audio renderer, which I can see was being used in your logs. Behind the scenes Windows routes this to whatever devices is set to default. ie, click the Windows Start button, type Sound, start that app, and you should see a list of the sound devices available in your machine. You can right click and select 'set as default' on one of those.

The TS Reader you posted on 2/11/2018 worked great on the first computer I tried it on but when I got around to trying it on my other computer I got an error. Both computers are identical in hardware and I am at my wits end trying to figure it out. Could you please look at the error message below and if you can, please let me know what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.
