Hmm, I was wrong vlc.exe appears to get killed correctly.

Just tried this several times with task manager displayed on my t.v. screen while in pressed Play Program on my client computer. vlc.exe immediately goes to 99% cpu and 30-40 megs of memory used. I get stuttering audio now and no video (i think it's because my pvr is recording something right now and my system just can't handle it!). When i click exit on the internal viewer, vlc.exe goes away immediately. Same thing when I tried it with an external viewer (and clicking the button that says press OK when you're done streaming)

Sorry for causing unnecessary concerns!

Well I thought I would give this a go, and at first stab pulled up my enchanced web admin to make sure that was still working, and there it was. Then I hooked this up, changed the port in the .xml and launched teh stream.aspx. It came up to a screen that showed my 1 file to be played, so I tried and realized I had a really old version of VLC. I grabbed teh latest version, installed so I had the mozilla plugin and tried it again, getting this everytime:

Any idea's..my brain is melted right now but I assure you the stream.aspx file is in /gbpvr directory. Also my enchanced web admin gives the same error, just saying manage.aspx is missing now instead of stream, again this was working earlier. Maybe I should make this a different port then the enchaned web admin?

Well to prove even a hardcore geek has brain lapse, I tried the old "how about we restart that computer" trick and wouldn't you know it. Works like a charm both as a plugin in Firefox and as an external player. Going to try it out on my PDA and then my Treo 650 later this week, will let you know how that works out.

here are some other codecs for those 'experimental' types...[like me lol]
mp2v is mpeg2, mp1v is mpeg1...among many others...
ahh,just found the list...go here for a complete [long!] list of output codecs you can use with vlc...[just make sure your player can play these too..tho vlc surely can.]

hmmm,i don't seem to be able to change codecs,when i use mp2v or mp1v it still shoots me mp4v and mp4a...i even tried rebooting...
any ideas? i spawned the vlc player so i could read it's media info and always comes up mp4v and mp4a..
just thought you'd like to know...
oh and there IS a Real-video codec, RV10, even for output!
[tho it is kinda old..may be better for streaming, or h.263]
and actually mp1v should be ultra fast on those users with slow computers..

what mux are you sending it all through? what's the typical command line for vlc to send that you use? [for testing]
just adding a little elbow grease... Smile

edit: apparently the rv10 doesn't work as well as expected..

Yeah, RV10 isnt that great.. off the top of my head, I think it's being muxed as a transport stream (mux=ts in the commandline). Basically, the "Windows Media friendly" thing I talked about a few posts back would mean using WMV2 and an ASF mux; that way WMP or MediaPlayer Classic would play it back as well, and give more options to folks. (in case you're somewhere and VLC isn't installed)

Do I need a full T1 at home to stream, or 256 KPBS Upstream is enough for streaming from home ?

I still can only see about 10 seconds of video before it freezes.

As I asked on a previous post, may be there is some tweaking that we need to do on the VLC Server and Client for this to work on a regular DSL line.

I'd like to know this too. VLC (on client PC at work) is locking up while trying to watch the USA-Latvia hockey game. I have cable at home 384kb up. What is the best bitrate to stream at? 150 seems to lock things up after 10 seconds as the above poster mentioned.

I don't think it's a bandwidth issue.. my DSL line is 384kb up, and I can stream both 150 and 256 without any problems. It might be an issue with the mux; while I was testing this out I first had it set to a Raw mux and it stuttered, then on ASF it froze after every 5 seconds or so, and then on a TS mux it was flawless.

It could be that different muxes work better for people depending on their system (reminds ya of MPEG2 decoders, doesnt it? Smile

)

I've put in the option of picking your own mux in the next build; it should be out in a day or two. btw, has increasing the buffering made any difference? that would help determine if the problem is the mux or bandwidth.

I've put together a quick new build to let you use a different mux and transport method. Actually, I can tell you right now that nothing other than http will work yet, so don't be surprised when udp doesnt work Smile

Just keep it at http for now.

There was a glitch where sometimes the codecs in the XML file weren't being loaded, that is fixed now.

If you're having trouble with the stream, try setting up a Windows Media stream by setting VideoCodec to WMV2, AudioCodec to MP3, and Mux to ASF. See if that works better for you.

Again this isn't really the "next build", but a build in progress I wanted to post here to see if it fixes some of the issues that folks are having.
