pBS Wrote:there was a guy about a year ago that made a similar client but it was severly buggy, but he had almost everything working..i still have it and it generates a log entry for just about everything it does[huge logs! lol] but very informative..
it may still be on the forums here somewhere too..very similarly, he used mplayer too...let me know if you'd like it and can't find it anywhere..

i'm stoked about the possibilities of remote access! Big Grin
it would rock if we could login from work and look up the movie to go to that evening and check the weather from the gbpvr interface..[tho i guess that is doable already with VNC or similar]
slideshows, music, etc is probably no biggie for net access tho i'm sure the video bandwidth won't allow video except for the lucky few..
[then we'll have to make a transcode/viewing plugin for remote use within normal interface, like the web streamer for web admin]
gotta get it stable locally first tho..

yours is already more stable than that old one but he had overlays, keys, etc all working b4 he disappeared...[just the video playing sucked!]
probably due to mplayer version he used...he embedded his...
your way is much cooler..externally substitutable...

thanx for the 'm' key bit...Big Grin
can't wait for the overlays!
sweet!

When I was researching this, the only client I could find on this forum was from scorpion2k, but he didn't leave the source. I would like to see it to compare how I've done things and get some ideas on doing things better.

You can see the overlay work if you want. I put the new source and binary here. You can unzip the folders and run the client directly from the Support folder (so you don't need to install). That way, if you want to revert back to the old version, you can.

To use the overlay, start a video from the video library and then hit "b" for the blue button to see the overlay.

that was the thing,he never left the source...that's the same one i was talking about...i noticed both were structured the same way..just thought the logs would help with the communications part...if you run it,everything gets logged..[which gets quite large pretty quick] and are quite detailed..
thought it might help with some of the keystrokes etc...but you're pretty far along already and much more table so far..Smile
and i like your seperate mplayer as it allows for upgrades/custom builds etc..
will try out the overlay now...been hardware modding...Big Grin
thanx!
p.s. and please get the window resizeability working! working very nicely for me so far Smile
popping back from fullscreen to a tiny window for interface is weird..lol
i've so been waiting for something like this..might be able to build a thin-client box since it's so efficient...!
will test on low end machines and let you know...Smile

Wouldnt that be easier to use a real MVP??? Or did i loose the plot there abit?
Many Thanks

You lost the plot. The idea is to have a software version for a PC as a client, with live TV.

Yeah i got that, but it sounded like pBS wanted to create a little PC so it did ONLY the MVP stuff.

I understand this is for a PC (i started this thread to help develop this). It sounded like if you wanted to create a small PC just to have the software MVP client then surely it woudl be easier to just buy a hardware MVP instead.

Maybe the point was missed slighty, although i do agree the more stable and easy to install the better Smile
Many Thanks
Ashley

ahh,but the mvp is kinda hard to find thesedays and i already have the pc..Smile
and the networked 'client' has some limitations as it is...[gigabit net needed for medium rec. quality levels]
also could be a alternative client for those whose codecs are all messed up,etc..
[those having hard time getting normal client to play without stutter]
and lesser level pc's...recording takes almost no proc. power, but playing does..and mplayer is exceptionally efficient at that Smile [not to mention built-in filters etc.]
plus i'm not sure how the networked client would react with multiple users...mvp access is designed for this..Smile
plus the possibility of inet access maybe? Big Grin [just icing]

Meh... I just checked Akimbo, and it looked like the best thing since sliced bread, until I noticed that all of the shows I was interested in are charged 99 cents each episode Sad on top of the $10 monthly subscription

[but works better without fs=1]
keep up the good work..so close...Big Grin

I've got the MediaMPV Server running and I can connect with a MediaMVP. However, when I start mvpviewer2.exe I get a "Timeout gui" error message. Do I need to install something else or change some config file somewhere?

Thanks.
