There are 3 services that are running in MCE 2005 - Media Center Externder Service, Media Center Receiver Service and Media Center Scheduler Service. Which one should actually be running for the mce epg update to take place. Can I disable the others?

yea, but the second one does, 8371 is "KHOU" as well...and gbpvr chokes on any duplicates..[it would only show 3 ch. in gb when i tried that]

i'm pretty sure this isn't unique to me as direct-tv here also lists same channel dupes..and i'll bet other's lineups will as well..

seems they add the digital dupes as higher numbers so people can schedule on one network,[say KHOU] and either the digital or analog signal could be used..
usually it's just the major digital ch. being duped, and the rest are labeled xxxxDT..

i checked and in yahoo api and titantv it's the same...[for the same code]
channels identical...pretty sure it's all the same data...lol

i believe just the scheduler service needs to be runnning..
the reciever is the same as gb's recording service..
the extender service is only for those who plan on running extenders, not needed at all if don't have one..

the reciever may also need to be running tho...willl test later...
none of them bother the system while not working tho,so safe to leave all on..

1.0.0.3 posted. The only change between it and 1.0.0.2 is that instead of ignoring the exclude list if an include list is used, 1.0.0.3 will apply the excludes after the includes.

hmmm, since the includes and excludes got added, none of the programs match their channels!
i get only the locals with proper shows, the rest are random channel's data..
like fox shows on ESPN, generally random...like the channel numbers got mixed up...each channel has consistant data, just not for the right channel number..
i checked and the last one that mapped properly was the one where the excludes didn't work..1.0.0.2 i think...[970 channels]

the channel list is perfect now tho..Big Grin [includes and excludes working]

ahh, looks like the data is being transposed, excludes are only working on channels numbers, the data is being shifted to next available channel, not ignored...so by excluding ch 2, it's data is now showing on 8, as that is the next number available..
make sense?

Well that's enough work for one night.... I've just UPGRADED to XP MCE... (That's right upgraded... DON'T ask me where I got that CD from)

Tried your program and failed. Guess that serves me right for not reading the manual.

Read it. Pathing issue. OK..

But for a person who has NEVER seen MCE, nor wants to spend any time in that Shiney Cool Interface fairy land... How does one configure a EPG Schedule?

I should say that there are no tuners installed currently. Do I need one? to at least get that working?

Mind giving me a boost?

yea, you need one usually, on at least one of your machines...cuz you have to program your own channel lineups..
you could then copy it over to any of your machines without installing it there..

[a thought, would be nice to be able to just specify the headend id manually, i think it can be set in registry..]
Quote:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\EPG\headend
when you install a card, just set it up...[configure tv signal]
there it'll take you thru all the steps necessary fairly quickly..
it's very simple comparatively..not many options..

after it's setup, you can take the card out...Smile
it will continue to get listings, assuming you just have a removeable type card..

U rock Man! Big Grin
now a quick run thru i-xmltv and i'm a happy camper..Wink
ahhh, a sigh of relief..zap2it can zap this... haha

you know i'm starting to believe there's only one true source for all this data..
i can't seem to find any difference in any of the data..[except packaging]

Yeah, the 05 version has to be in the ehome directory. It's an MCE issue with the dlls.

You have to run through the MCE setup, I'm been trying to do it programatically, but it's not working out so far.

You need at least an analog tuner. It can be removed from the machine once the guide is set up as pBS said, but you need it at least for the initial setup.

You will have the ability to specify the headend with the downloader app. If you're done breaking the converter, I'll get back to working on it :p

You will still have to set up the EPG at least once in MCE, then you will be able to use the downloader to select and set your headend id.
