deepdavem Wrote:ok here is what im trying to do
1. record a program - its seems to record in dvr-ms format
2. cut out commerials - it didnt do so during recording . maybe i will set it so it does it afterwards
3. convert that file to ipod compatible so i can transfer it to my ipod touch
As stustunz has pointed out, comskip or GB-PVR doesnt attempt to remove commericals. It just creates a simple text file with the times that it things commercials occur. GB-PVR has logic to auto skip those parts during playback. (you could look into external utilities like comcut, but personally I prefer to leave the commercials in place, so I've not used these and cant vouch for their performance)

To convert to ipod format from dvr-ms, you need to have the Cyberlink mux filter installed.

Quote:ok have got the live tv part sorted out
bit disappointed i cant do a recording from live tv
seems can only do it from the tv guide.
You can press Ctrl-K while watching TV.

Quote:my question is what if a particular channel shows no guide. how do i set up a recording for in the future
You can use the "Manual Rec" button in the Recording screen.

Where can i get this cyberlink mux filter and how do i install it. does this mean that once install my recorded programs will be in mpg format not dvr-ms. thanks for your explanation of the comskip program. If my recorded programs end up as mpg format can i use the comskip program manually afterwards to get rid of the commercials automatically ?

I copied THMpgMux(5.0.0.2022)ax to c:/WINDOWS/system32 and then ran regsvr32 THMpgMux(5.0.0.2022)ax but came up with the error

" The module "THMpgMux(5.0.0.2022).ax" may not compatible with the version of Windows that you're running.Check if the module is compatible with an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bigt) version of regsvr32.exe.

what does this mean

The mux you have selected in the config app dictates the type of file that gets creates. The DVR-MS mux makes .dvr-ms files. The Cyberlink mux makes .mpg files.

That said, if you record .dvr-ms files and select to convert it to a different file type, it uses the Cyberlink mux behind the scenes.

It doesnt matter what format you record in, comskip doesnt delete commercials - it just creates text files that specifies the times at which commercials occur in the recording.

If you're on Vista you probably need to be running a command prompt as administrator before attempting to run regsvr32.
