Did you get a crack at this again sub, I find I have the same choppy issue on liveTV with my CableBox feed which VLC shows as being mpeg1/1/2/3 (mpga).

I've used the LAV Filter but still get the choppiness. Seems OK for my DMB-TH feed from a digital tuner which is AC3.

I've made a small change in the next release that might help. No way to know for sure though until a wider set of users start checking it.

How are people finding this in 2.1.5 then?

I've stuck with ac3filter, and so far things are looking good. I haven't experienced any serious stuttering at all.

I still get the tiniest hint of a stutter for 3 to 5 seconds after changing channels, but it doesn't happen every time, and it's more like gaps in the audio rather than the repeats that happened before. Nothing that's really worth worrying about though.

Actually, looks like I was just lucky at avoiding the problem channels up until now. More testing tonight has revealed cases where the stutter - which is infrequent and still not as bad as before - will happen long after changing channel. My amp turns off its little speaker icons when not being fed a signal, and you can see them flicker slightly at the same time as the stuttering.

On live tv I definitely have bad audio and video until NPVR changes from the default of MPEG audio to AC3 on the HD PVR and ATSC broadcasts. This typically takes 3-5 seconds often with a comical speed up of the video until things sync. I would dearly like to have the choice of defaulting to AC3 in some future update to see if it helps this.

Just installed npvr 2.1.5 and using HVR-1600. Same problem here on Live TV for both audio and video stuttering.

I used AC3Filter for MPEG1 & AC3 audio. Disabled for all other audio decoders. Seems it's really bad on Discovery Channel. On some other channels they're more bearable. The stuttering are very minor on yet others. Not sure what contributed to the different severity of stuttering on the different channels. Stuttering does get worse over time.

npvr would be a really nice piece when this problem is fixed... .

Notes:
Seems a scene change would either 'cure', or 'trigger' the stuttering problem. If I see stuttering during a commercial, when the next commercial starts stuttering would suddenly 'disappear'. The next commercial kicks in, stuttering starts again. That's what I seem to see on the Discovery Channel.

Don't know if this would give some kind of a clue where the problem (or one of the problems) could be... .

BTW, I'm using MS DTV-DVD Video Decoder for MPEG2 Video. Don't know if that's a bad choice.

Update:

Changed from MS DTV-DVD Video Decoder to Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder for MPEG2 Video. Video/Audio stuttering seems to be gone (not really observable) -- for now. I am happy now. :-)

Before on v2.04 with FFDshow for MPEG 1 audio and Divx for HE-AAC (Freeview HD) I would get choppy audio on the MPEG - no problems with the HE-AAC.

Now on 2.15 with all patches and LAV for MPEG Audio (SD) and Divx for HE-AAC (HD), PDVD11 Video Codec, I get perfect (to these deaf ears - tis the age you know) MPEG but some choppiness on the HE-AAC.
This only happens in 2 scenarios
1) when there is a lot of black on screen
2) when there is Text on screen (not necessarily on a black background)
Text on Black seems worse - e.g. end credits

Maybe a buffer problem or Deinterlacing problem?
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

One thing I have noticed is some slowdown when on-screen graphics are overlaid over the video, eg, browsing the EPG with Live TV behind it.

I've seen the same thing with GBPVR where I still use VRM9 (which has no slowdown) whereas EVR causes poor performance even in the menus with no video playing. It's not quite as bad in NPVR, but it does slow things down enough to make things feel a tad sluggish. This is with a decent Core i3 and an HD5450 GPU, but I'll try to remember to get at look at the CPU usage next time.

It's probably not related to this problem, but it might be making it worse, especially after flicking channels when the OSD obviously comes up.
