Skunks actually make good pets (once de-scented), but the wild ones are a tad defensive, especially around dogs who chase them.
I find that raccoons are far more aggressive and nasty. They will actually come after you.

This is such interesting stuff to know when I only have squirrels as my closest 'wild animal'! By de-scented I guess you mean an operation to wip out their wiffy glands! But really good pets? I want one! What would their behaviour in the home be more comparable to? A Dog or Cat?

Now onto raccoons then Big Grin these I know absolutely nothing about!

Oh and as this is what you are doing right now thread, feeling relieved as found missing cat!

They (like the racoons) get into the garbage and they dig deep around the house. The obvious problem is when they spray nearby though, it can be gut wrenching. They can also wreck the lawn when they dig for grubs, a few years ago our front lawn lookes like the moon and we had to replace the whole thing.

This is so interesting, squirrels don't even come close to this! Seriously, we do have foxes that like to rummage in dustbins/garbage but I find them very shy and non-aggressive (even though recent stories in the UK media have painted them as something worse). We also have badgers who are beautiful and related to bears genus-wise I believe but cause no trouble at all. Then we have hedgehogs who also are very shy. Of course these are mainly all nocturnal animals like me!

And none of them leave a big spray or any smell really for that matter. Or dig up the lawn.

Fascinating!

They are kind of like needy cats. You can't leave them along for long, and require a fair amount of attention. Or so I have been told; never adopted one personally.

For wild animals, Eastern Coyotes are my personal 'most feared'. They tend to not mess with people (or anything as large as my Black Lab) but will kill smaller pets. And the sound; to hear them yipping, you will understand why humans built houses. Chills the very soul.

Here's a picture of a coyote (we think) that was in our neighbourhood last winter.
