that's not related to bobbins' issue. the short answer is don't use the ATSC EPG in the US, it's essentially useless. the long answer is: stuff... things... info... details... use SchedulesDirect instead.

oops: missed the fact that sub already said the same thing.

Sub - thanks for looking into this.

In post #24 the screen shot called AbnormalEPG happens to be of the problem as seen on the 'simple' system.
The 'NormalEPG' is from one of the others that was working at the time.
The schedules ought to look much the same even when the channels are slightly mismatched (BBC1 HD vs BBC1).
On that evidence one might say that entire channels are short of info.
I am pretty sure I have also seen cases where the EPG for a channel is only partially filled.
(I remember this because what I wanted to record was in the missing section on a machine I wanted to use)

The logs in post #24 are also from the 'simple' system (matches the screenshot).
However, I cannot say for sure that there was an EPG reload immediately prior to zipping those logs.
I am now waiting for the EPG to go awry on the 'simple' system hoping that I can get the exact case that you requested in post #34.
And a watched pot never boils ....

P.S.
If FreeSat turns out to be the characteristic element for Bobins problem but my EPG does not include FreeSat
is it still OK to post in this thread or do I need to change thread somehow ?

Sub,

I've identified that the remaining channels with the missing EPG data are actually SKY Free to Air channels and not FreeSat. Obviously their EPG data isn't in the FreeSat EPG.

If I set the EPG source to DVB/ATSC for those SKY channels and update EPG, I get "Now & Next" for those channels [complete with funny characters at beginning and end of each listing text] but no full EPG for those channels.

I've also noted this causes the funny characters to appear against the first two listings for other channels too. These seem to be channels which are on both FreeSat and Sky. I assume the Sky Now & Next data is overwriting the data coming from FreeSat for those channels. I'll post a screenshot later to demonstrate.

Does anyone know what Sky channel caries the full Sky EPG?

The definite FreeSat channel EPG download is still looking good :-)

I tried using mc2xml, but that doesn't seem to work great either. What other options do I have besides a paid solution?

What didn't work well with that? I don't use mc2xml myself, but I know a lot of people are very happy with it, and in theory it should give you same listings as you get with the WMC or Schedules Direct.

I went back from scratch and re did the setup for mc2xml. Initially when you first go in and select XMLTV on the channel detail the app errors. That is where I left it. However, if you click through the error and hit OK and come back into the channel details, you can proceed with the rest of the setup. Which I did. I'll give it a few days and report back. I also setup a few re occuring recordings to see how it goes. Thanks!

Hi folks

I have the same setup

a dual DVD-T (Freeview) (Rowridge Transmitter)
and dual DVB-S2 (Freesat)

My freesat updates are failing consistently Sad

I wonder if "they" have changed the EPG frequency??

PS on a side note an alert to say epg updates failed would have been good, I could have reacted and change the recordings from HD back to SD channels.
but hey ho

If anyone needs logs etc, let me know where and what.
I also might be able to setup VNC backto the box if needed
