Quote:you mean grouping..... or will the plugin display EVERY track of every album? i think it will display the albums and then, by clicking the album display the tracks in the album.....am i wrong?
i mean it will be multiple levels, eg for albums view
level 1 - artists
level 2 - albums
level 3 - tracks.

Quote:grouping by artist would be a fine thing also. the killer-feature would be, if the user could define those "views" in the config-app. just a thought...
too much work to bother with, there should only be so many view people want (yeah assuming is a bad thing, but its true)

Quote:Will you be able to incorporate a random play option in this version of My Music ?
yeah it would, im just trying to keep the button count down to 6, i might put a special "All" (random each time) under "My Playlists"

Quote:and the ability to stop folders being added to db [by presence of a noindex.txt file] or flagged in the db that they should not be randomly played
nah, it no longer looks in the folders, it just does a query in the database.

Yes but if when you are building the db can you either skip folders that contain noindex.txt so the tracks are not in the database or have a column in the db that marks them not to be randomly selected, because the file noindex.txt existed when the db was built

no, why would you want to keep music files out of the database?

Only if you are using random play mode for a party there may well be particular albums you dont want selected,

Say you have a folder for your 6 year old daughter which is full of disney tracks for instance

if you are having party with adults using "my music" to supply music then if you can mark a folder not to be either indexed or randomly played then you can easily make sure your daughters disney tracks aren't mixed in with metallica tracks for instance,

Its how I regulrily use gbpvr at the moment I'm using music player but would like to go back to my music as it handled albums much better than music player, but the current "my music" does have randon play mode

if you have a stand alone db generator, then if you include code to not include folders containing the noindex.txt file in the db then users can easily re-generate their dbs for particular circumstances, adult parties, childrens parties etc etc

the db shouldnt be rebuilt for different circumstances. you would lose to much info (album art, album reviews etc from amazom.com, track durations (not all can be found in the tag)).

just make custom playlists for each circumstance and shuffle them.

Have you considered doing smart playlists like in iTunes?

So I take that you're gonna make MyMusic better at selecting and playing music than the half eaten apple program, excellent Wink

- Genres (genres sorted by name/ARTISTS-ALBUM (sorted by name)/TRACKS (sorted by tracknumber)
- top 100 (sorted by rank).

they seem to make a lot more sense, can anyone else think of another way to sort this, which would make sense?
My 2penn'oth is just to say that's how I like my music sorted and my folder tree is as your first example, i.e., D:\JukeBox\<artist>\<albumname> etc. With genres, again, after the genre the order should be artist, album, track for my liking.

Tracks should always be sorted as they are on the album (again my personal choice) - I'm kinda anal about that - there was a time (years ago) when I heard a track on the radio of something I owned on vinyl, I could say which album and which number track it was on which side. (Sad huh?). Smile
