Hey I got it working....

Next question.
I think that i've made the backgrounds for normal and selected in the tv guide transparent in the baseskin.xml, but they seem to still show up black. Do I need to modify the xml somewhere else?

<NamedColor name="ReminderListing" color="Horizontal:#000022-#000088"/>
<NamedColor name="ScheduledListing" color="Vertical:#762123-Transparent"/>
<NamedColor name="SelectedListing" color="Transparent"/>
<NamedColor name="SelectedReminderListing" color="Horizontal:#000044-#0000BB"/>

I think there is a bug that only allows gradients. Try "Horizontal:Transparent-Transparent" and see if that works.

I hope to get back on this documentation soon, really, I promise. I'll link the edits or additions that I make on the wiki.

This may be moving outside the realm of CS3, but it sorta kinda in a way relates to the tutorial.

Is there a set of "Standard" Named elements? That is, names that one would expect a baseskin.xml file to have defined? Or are they pretty much unique to each skin?

Those in the default blue skin's baseskin.xml, will most likely be defined in all other skins.

Starting on the wiki updating.

Not sure I get the analogy here:

Quote:If you want to think of a skin as, well, skin, then you can think of the graphical elements as flesh and muscle, and the xml files as the bones. One very important xml file is the baseskin.xml and that can be thought of as the spine…

Wouldn't a skin be considered a "body" in this analogy and the graphics the skin.

Edit: I have a new "angle" on how to describe the structure. I am going to try something different.

I have started tweaking the first page.

Quite proud of myself with that "layers" image.Cool
Only half a day to bang that out (I really am not a "photoshop guy").:p

Q. for zehd.[/COLOR]

I hold the opinion that there is no such thing as a stupid question. However, stupid people do ask questions. Like this...

The sections you have as "...About blahblah".
Are you envisioning lists with little detail and links, or full blown discourse?

I knew this day would come....The whole idea of me being involved kinda flopped. Indeed I bit too much to chew.... Anyway...

From a previous post, about the body, skin flesh etc. It is my opinon that a skin may be made up of several grahical elements. Indeed you would not have a skin if there was not at least a background. So in my opinion, a skin is the layer on top of the guts-- the programming code etc, and that which we end up seeing on the surface.

Yes. blah blah blah is a place holder for more details, concepts I felt should be expanded on. It was my intention to write the outline, so that it was fleshed out. Then thought I would get involved with writing a wysiwyg editor, and then that seemed like it was going somewhere else.

I would be happy to still help, but I will not be able to be as involved as I started out....

Of course you keep posting like this and forcing me to go 'huh?' will definitely help my post count and keep my distance from Martin... Rolleyes

I really like the first page of the wiki. I've already fixed a couple of typos, but I really like your layering explanation. Now all we have to do is get everyone else to use the terminology. HEHEHE
