New Hauppauge pre-release drivers

haha yeah, fragile is the right word! i wiped everything and just tried again, and it worked.. (with the 23348 from the website, dated Dec 28 2005). I'll test these and see if the timeline error happens or not; then we'll know if these new drivers are ok or not.

Others have tried 23348 and had timeline errors, myself being one of them. Hope your luck is better than mine.

btw, my timeline issues seem to happen when I have a recording going on, and then I start playing it while it's still recording.. comskip runs during recording, and they show up on the timebar.. when i hit "Play" to skip a commercial, bam it's messed up...

Maybe i should just wait until the program is over? but thats a bit annoying... (and the timeline doesnt get messed up on my Aver M150, so I'm pretty sure it is the Hauppauge drivers)

I think if you look back through the thread you will see any driver works for some people most of the time....there is not a one stop cure. It appears if you have a single card then your chances are greater of not getting a timeline corruption as compared with multiple cards.

I think we need to wait for some feedback from techies that understand the hardware a little better to assist with this issue.

What am I saying? Load all the drivers you want but there is a chance that it may not fix your particular problem and may even make things worse.

This same type of thread is over at shspvr......I am hoping this one stays focused on the technical issue at hand (timeline corruption) and does not become a 2 mile long thread that talks abouit reinstalling drivers over and over again with no resolution.

I am hoping that at some point we get some feedback from HAU....sub sent off a clip for them to look at but I don't know how long this stuff normally takes.

agreed, seems like talking about what driver to use is becoming like asking "whats the best mpeg2 decoder?". Hopefully we'll get something positive out of Hauppauge soon.

I usually hear back from them pretty much straight away, or not at all. Unfortunately this one looks like its in the 'not at all' category.

I set up comskip to exclude all my digital movie channels that have no commercials; it's then simply a matter of skipping / FFing the prepadding. No point running comskip on channels with no commercials, eh?

This is always possible. Remember comskip is just guessing where commercials are based on patterns it sees in your video. If your movie (without commercials) happens to use black fades etc that look like commercials on other channels, then it is very likely that comskip is going to think it is an ad.

Yep - false positives. That's *why* I took comskip off the movie channels!
