I can check tonight. I used it this morning and the guide looked good, but I can check to see if the update is working.

It only uses the FCC database when it is initially configuring, right?

I just tried it and it timed out for me too. Perhaps the FCC database is down for maintenance???

Yes, once you have a "Provider" entry in the ini file, you no longer need the FCC database.

Joe, I tried your program yesterday - thanks for the good work.

I do have one problem though actually the same as another post. I want listings for ATSC channels in the Austin area. Your program gives me the analog versions of the station ID when looking for digital over the air stations. The provider id suggested is TX60669 but that is actually Time Warner standard (analog) cable. If I could get Time Warner digital cable I would be in luck because all the stations except pbs have identical listings.

Can you tell me more about how you find the provider ID?

jukebox,

You can get a list of ProviderIDs by issuing the following HTTP request (replacing the 76020 Zipcode with your Zipcode):

Code:
http://api.digitalhomeservices.yahoo.com/V0_1/tribune?mode=tv_headend&zip=76020&country=us

You will get a list of ProviderIDs for your Zipcode ("View Source" for a cleaner presentation):

Code:
BEGIN 16
4DTV|USA|4DTV||
AFN|USA|AFN Satellite||
C-BAND|USA|C-Band|V|
C-BAND|USA|C-Band|H|
TX42914|Dallas-Ft. Worth|Charter Communications||
TX42914|Dallas-Ft. Worth|Charter Communications|X|
DITV|USA|DIRECTV||
DITV623|Dallas-Ft. Worth|DIRECTV Dallas||
DISH623|Dallas-Ft. Worth|DISH Dallas/Ft. Worth||
ECHOST|USA|DISH Network||
TX56939|Dallas-Ft. Worth|Rapid Cable||
TX56939|Dallas-Ft. Worth|Rapid Cable|X|
SKYANGL|USA|Sky Angel||
USDT623|Dallas-Ft. Worth|USDTV Dallas-Ft. Worth|X|
TX64967|Dallas-Ft. Worth|Verizon Fios Keller||
TX64967|Dallas-Ft. Worth|Verizon Fios Keller|X|
END
BEGIN 16 (entries)
<ProviderID>|<Description>|<Description>|{X}|
...
END

The X (if present) means a Digital lineup.

I hope this helps.

Joe

Not to thread hijack but yapi2xml (see sig) will pull all the providers but it won't pull from the FCC database.

Just an FYI.

When I started my version of the Yahoo! API program I based it on the work previously done by -Oz-. He has continued to improve his program and I would suggest that if you want to use the Y! API approach, either my program or his will do the trick.

-Oz- is a senior member of the GB-PVR group and also has an outstanding reputation.

I think it's Cool great Cool that we went from having no choices for a Zap2It guide replacement to several good alternatives.

My choice of using the FCC database was a way to make it easy for non-technical people to get a quick start on using the Y! API - it is not a better way - just different. Once you have a your ProviderID, you are set.

Regards,
Joe

And this was a brilliant idea too. They actually work the exact same way so once one is working for you I'd just use it an not change anything :-D

Joe, thanks to your work I did learn quite a bit about what is happening and I went to yapi2xml and it is working great for me.

There is another user from Austin who had exactly the same need I will try to find him and tell him about this solution.

Thanks again to both!
