This is an error I've seen already. If you blow away the application data\...\EPG folder and have MCE re-download the guide it should get past that error. At least it did for me. In fact if you check in that folder you'll probably find the XML file is not there, but a sdf file with the same name is.

Ah, I understand now. I would say

But I don't want to have to start writing my own tutorials. Big Grin

ERROR STRING:

And now it the Media Centre can't connect either. I will try and reconfigure WMC and see if it helps Sad

Edit: Now I'm worried. I reconfigured WMC and it downloaded ok, but now I get the same error. When I tried to list-headends it seems to just hang. whurlston do you have any suggestions for me?

Edit 2: Ok, running as administrator seems to solve the problem. I wonder if this can be changed?

Try deleting and files in that all users directory. What I found, but I'm not using vista, is that if the downloader botches once, then it sort of messed until I delete the xml and sdf files...

Are the GB-PVR apps (Recording service, Config, and PVRx2) running as administator? If they are, they will launch the updateepg.bat and the programs it runs as administrator as well.

Yes they are but I don't update this way. When I look at the guide, and notice it is "empty" I run a batch file to do the update and as part of my testing use the MVP or the PCH to load the xml data.

Not a big deal now that I know it just was a surprise this has run so well for months and then SP1 makes some kind of change.

zehd, I don't have any sdf files as far as I can tell and I run from a dedicated folder. I don't think I have ever had to delete anything with 1.0.6

You know, this admin rights thing in Vista seems to be quite irritating..

Recently I talked with a guy who was working for M$ just prior to final release of Vista. He said that we (XP users) shouldn't worry and that that Vista will cycle out before XP is completely dropped support.

Vista is going to go the way of dodo and WinME. There'll be something else soon enough that will be easier on the old guys like me...

I disabled UAC long ago so I would not have noticed the change. I know that with it enabled, if you tried to read or write from/to a system folder, the UAC would get in the way. It may be that it's no longer just limited to system folders but possible user data folders as well now.
