Very good. Here is my take. Feel free to use or ignore as you see fit. (I used to do periodic technical document reviews to I can;t help fiddling with other peoples text)

NextPVR is a free Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and Media Centre application for Microsoft Windows that enables you to schedule, record and playback TV Recordings and watch live TV from a wide variety of tuners with support for virtually all current international broadcast standards.

You can also play back DVD’s, music, videos and photos stored on your PC or on other devices over your home network.

The capabilities of NextPVR can be extended with an expanding range of plugins that provide additional features such as weather, internet radio and RSS Reader.

There is support for multiple client devices (including thin client devices such as the Popcorn hour) for distributing your media experience around your home. NextPVR also provides a web interface so that you can schedule and stream media when you are away from home using a PC or a suitable mobile device.

NextPVR is developed by Sub. You will find him on the forum where he is joined and supported by an active and friendly community that is also responsible for the development of the documentation wiki.

Thanks gEd,

I actually like nearly (it not all of this!) I don't want to bring this all up again but on another thread I have consistently said that this is a DVR not a PVR. But if it is called NextPVR can we just switch to calling it a DVR?

Think I should have mentioned skins as well?

Don't suppose with your very good skills on this you would like to join the team on the as yet unannounced new pages? Cheeky to ask I know Big Grin

fair point - no point calling it a dvr when the product is NextPVR (or whatever). Lets change the name to NextDVR! (I'll get me coat..)

Mentioning skins: quite possibly. I thought about it but wasn;t sure what to say. I guess skinning may not be a key part of the summary you are providing here. For example I was going to suggest that you specifically mention the international broadcast standards but that isn;t needed at this stage.

I am not sure how well I would rate my writing skills but (as I mentioned) I do have some experience of writing and reviewing technical and business documents.
I could probably make a useful contribution if only I had more free time in the evening so I am wary about making a commitment I can't keep.

Let's see how we get on but feel free to PM me anything you would like me to cast an eye over in the meantime.

I think you need to (somehow) mention NPVR's support for recording multiple channels from a single tuner. This is something that is mentioned a lot on other HTPC forums when people are asking about what software they should use, and a lot of people - especially those migrating from a limited-functionality consumer device - are usually quite surprised to discover it's even possible. It's a big selling point.

Also, I don't think "DVD's" should have the apostrophe Smile

Duly noted, good point.

Actually I think it is correct to write DVD's. The apostrophe serves to keep the original abbreviation intact and separate from the "s" indicating plurality. Non-dotted abbreviations like this can contain upper and lower case letters, and could even end in an "s". If one wants to be more technical about it, consider that DVD stands for Digital Versatile Disc; the plural then is Digital Versatile Discs, thus the non-dotted abbreviation is DVD's with the apostrophe signifying the missing letters "isc".

A quick web search found this: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/acronyms.html

Ultimately though, it probably doesn't matter in this case. There are far worse apostrophe related crimes, and I'm sure my posts are probably full of them too Smile

Hmmm should I do a poll Big Grin

How about:

'Watch a DVD, or play back music, videos and photos stored on your PC or on other devices over your home network.' Big Grin
