I'm looking to edit video from my old VHS tapes.

I'd like to input the video through my PVR150, but that would result in a MPEG.

As I understand it, it is desirable to edit video with AVI source files, rather than MPEG editing - including transitions and titles, would involve a lot of processor intensive encoding. (and from what I've read a lot of quality loss)

Does anyone know how to use a PVR150 as a capture device, but save as AVIs?

Thanks
Frank Z

Its not really possible, but you can always set you machine to auto convert recordings to AVI (divx/xvid).

I'm not sure if it really makes sence to edit video as AVI's. I think if your reading that someplace, its refering to uncompressed video imported from a analouge caputre source or digital transfer from a firewire/usb capture device or Digital Video camera.

It would be much eaiser to run your video tapes through your 150, create mpeg 2 files then edit and finally burn to DVD. If you try to capture the VHS tapes to (uncompressed) AVI files your going to spend hours trying to convert that to MPEG2 for DVD (if that's your goal) Your 150 will provide a DVD compatiable Mpeg without the rendering process.

Just my 2 cents.

Yep You're right. I was thinking about actual editing, sound mixing, transitions wipes etc.

I think you're right if I just want to snip VHS footage and then pop it onto DVD.

You've actually answered my question. I'll create MPEGs for the straight snips for DVD, and do the long process if I want to Hollywood-ize anything special...

Thanks

I found this website very helpful for those kind of things, they have a great lot of guides, make sure you check them first before you pop a question in their forum. Folks overthere aren't as civilised as overhereSmile
