It would be very cool if the user could define the level of priority/interest of a particular program via the web interface or gui recording interface. The level could range for 0 to 99 with 0 being the least important and 99 being the most important. This priority level would be compared to any other program's priority level that may be scheduled to begin recording at the same timeslot and causes a conflict due to not enough tuners available. The program with the highest priority would be recorded and the other program would be recorded at another time if another showing will occur in the future.

Similarly, but much less important, it would be nice to be able to rank the tuners in order of importance. I have standard cable and DirecTV. I would much prefer to record the program on DirecTV over cable if that program is playing on both providers. I have several channels that are duplicated between the two.

I think this is available with the XRecord Plugin.

What I wish for is much simpler, and I hope sub can impliment this inside GB-PVR without the need for a plugin.

I just installed a second 150. My first one uses a digital cable STB and my second uses analog cable. They have the same programming guide, except the analog has fewer channels.

I would really like to tell GB-PVR to always use the Digital Cable 150 unless it needs to use the analog. Currently I believe it's a coin toss as to which tuner it's using.

I mean this for Live TV, TV Guide >> schedule a recording, and even recurring recordings.

For my recurring recordings, I've been able to get into Access and the database and force my scheduled stuff to use the capture source I always want. I just thought it would be easier to add a dropdown in the Config/Capture Source panel that you can choose the preferred tuner...

What do you think?

zehd,

It appears to be a popular request and it's been asked for quite a few times,

e.g. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...er+records
http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...oose+tuner

but is not something sub wants to do. If you do a search on tuner choose channel or something similar, then you will see what I mean.
Here's an e.g. or two

http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...se+channel
http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=8...ostcount=6

and here's sub's definitive reply ...
http://forums.gbpvr.com/showpost.php?p=5...ostcount=5

There is a bit more formula than a "coin toss". It generally starts at the top of the list of capture sources in the config app and works it way down looking for an available tuner that has the requested channel. The rule deviates a bit for back to back recordings, since it tries to make sure padding is honoured if possible.

You can use this info to set a general preference for which tuner to use.

I can see why you would prefer the digital card for quality etc, but what if you have a 30min show starting on a channel available on both cards followed by a show starting 15mins later on a channel only available via digital? Surely the digital card would be recording the first show so the second would fail? Or does Sub have some nifty code that looks for this type of clash before picking a device?

In the old days, I'd have to decide which vcr would record which programs...

Now it seems, that I will have to continue to do this. I will notice that there's a digital only show starting halfway through a recording and change the first recording to record with the 2nd analog source.

I'll be writing an MS Access interface that will list the recording out, so one can adjust the capture source more easily. Once I've got it down, I'll see if others like it, and then see if someone wants to help write a plugin.

My main reason for avoiding other plugins is I'm trying to keep my setup as stock as possible. (that's how i've been documenting so far)

But before I do start working on my project, I'll check out XRecord...

Sorry, I'm not going to go down this path. I dont want the user to select which tuner to use in GB-PVR.

Okay. Being this is a dead issue, my wish has been revised:

Can someone tell me how to accomplish this by using XRecord? I am most interested in recording higher priority shows rather than choosing tuners.

That's cool. I do appreciate how you've made GB-PVR open enough so that others can work around these type of issues...
