What exactly is HIP and why would someone need it? Appears to be related to remotes. Would this allow me to do something with all those extra buttons on my Hauppauge 45 button remote that don't seem to do anything in GBPVR?

Thanks!

You dont need HIP for the 45 button remote.

Which buttons do you mean by "all those extra buttons"? There is only three buttons not currently used by GB-PVR on the Hauppauge 35 button remote.

You can use the Hauppauge irremote.ini to program those buttons to do custom things though if you want.

Thanks!

HIP is a "middleware" type of app. It works between your remote and your application. It can take input from remotes (check website for which ones are supported), and change the input to keyboard "keypresses" and pass them to applications.

You can also use it run applications, run macro's stuff like that. Girder is another example of this type of software.

Why you might want it is so you could take remote that does not have built in support in GBPVR and make it work. I use it with my MCE remote to allow more flexability on what I can do with it. Assign different functions to button's that don't do what I want or stuff like that.
GBPVR Server:
AMD Sempron 3300+, 1gb DDR, 100, 200 & 500gb HDDs, DVD -/+RW PVR150 RETAIL, PVR150MCE.
GBPVR 1.0.16, SKIN'S = Default Blue, PLUGIN'S = None

Thanks everyone...excellent answers as usual. It appears that I was doing something wrong because the remote seems to work pretty well. Now if I could find a way to power on the PC with it. GOLDMINE BABY!

I've actually found it quite usefull. I made my own IR reciever for the box and I'm using a Logitech Harmony 628 programable remote. Without HIP or Girder mapping the keys wouldn't be possible.

I like my remote control Gbpvr PC that much I made another reciever for my other PC. I'm using an old remote from a broken DVD player to control it.....8)
