Hey All,

I have started writing a Power Management plugin (really an extension to the Shutdown Plugin).

**
Edit:
New version 0.2.1

This version (hopefully) lists the power management schemes and allows you to change to a different power scheme on your machine (provided you are allowed to do it - not sure what happens if you are not)
**

It is using the same layout as Comics/RSS. Enter key only works on the left side panel to choose which Mode/Scheme/Timer you want.

Currently the only Mode's which are enabled are Hibernation and Suspend. It is also doing the "nice" way in that it requests all applications to hibernate/suspend.

I'll try and get the Timer mode working, then the selectable power schemes.

You can get it at here

I have only run this as an administrator, but I assume it works fine as a user. If you choose a Power mode, it does give you a yes/no prompt.

Let me know of issues, weird things, etc.

Cheers,
Colin.

New version posted which lists the power schemes defined on your machine (this is only tests on XP).

Once I confirm these are being listed correctly, i'll enable the code to switch to the required scheme.

I should add there is a dll (GBPVR_PM.dll - prefixed so as you know what app it is associated with) which gets dropped into your windows/system32 directory. You may need to drop this into the correct location on your machine. This is a small interface into the powermanagement API. I could not be arsed trying to convert C++ typedefs into C#, so I wrote them in Purebasic.

Cheers,
Colin.

Hey all,

i have added into this plugin the ability to switch power schemes. This works for me so let me know if you have problems.

The .dll GBPVR_PM.dll goes into your windows/system32 (or equivalent) and is a simple interface into the powermanagement api. See previous post for more on that. This is what it looks like

Could this be setup as a Power button where I hit the power button and the unit turns off (I don't want it to reboot or power off) What I find neat is with my Xbox I hit the power button and the unit turn off and when I press the button again it is up and running in 2 - 3 seconds.

An added feature which would be nice is a sleep function where I could tell the PVR to turn off in "X" time. It would be need if I could some how link my Tv to this as well maybe with an IR blast that sends a single to the TV.

I am finding that a lot of the fancy stuff is cost prohibitive.

I'm not too sure what you mean here.

And yes I am planning on a timer feature, I just need to finish it that section.

cheers,
Colin.

I think we wants the Hibernate feature of windows so it wont take that long to turn back on.

It wont quite be 3 seconds, the XBOX uses a ROM for it bootup process, but it will come up faster the a full bootup.

Ah so its a short cut to the hibernate or suspend option? Suspend comes back very quickly but it uses more power than hibernate. Anyway the poweroff/reboot options don't work.

Of course you need to setup your power management to respect hibernate.

For information sake, the joys of power management and different users. It took me a while to release that when using the MVP i am not running as me, but as ASP.NET user (i think) so the power schemes I see from the MVP do not relate to the way I have set up my PC.

Needless to say i used REgedit to set it up the way I want, but the power schemes are "quirky". I'll see if I can get things working better through the plugin, but these are some things you may want to be aware of for power schemes.

Hi there,

I was wondering if there is a tool to shutdown hard disks?
