HI all: I installed GBPvr 2 days ago, and now my computer will not shut down.
Normally I have the system setup so that when I hit the power switch, windows shuts down and then the computer fans etc shut off. Not anymore. I also try the software shutdown from within windows and it also will not shut the computer off.
All it will do is turn the monitor off. The keyboard Numlock LED stays on and the power supply fans keep running.
My Bios is set to power off with switch. I have standby and hibernate OFF in windows.
I also booted from a win95 floppy disk and I still cannot power off, so this leads me to believe winXP has nothing to do with it, BUT it all started since I installed GBpvr
What the devil could be wrong?
I cannot imagine anything GBPvr did, but I also did not make any other changes or software installs, and sure have not been into the Bios in a year until this wierd problem occured.
Any advice would be appreciated.

What do you mean by "not shut down". Is an image displayed on screen?

Assume you checkied you're power settings in Windows control panel?

By not powering down, I mean the fans keep running in the computer, and the numlock LED stays on, on the keyboard. The monitor shuts off, and windows XP on screen goes through the normal shut down procedure, ending with shutting down computer message, then the screen goes dark and the computer keeps humming away forever unless I physically unplug it.
I have checked the BIOS power switch mode and it is set for computer shuts down with power switch.
I have an MSD motherboard running the AMD processor, for what thats worth.

I forgot, yes I checked the power settings in control panel as well. It also is set to shut off computer. I selected standby and hibernate, and both of those work. I then re-selected shut off computer and it will not do so.
The computer is not in a standby or hibernate mode, because hitting the keyboard will not make it power up again. The fans and keyboard are powered though, yet the monitor is off. I have to press the power switch on the computer to make it boot.

Hi!
Check if the registry key PowerDownAfterShutdown is available or not.
1. Start Regedit ("Start"->"Run", type "regedit") and navigate to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Set the value of PowerDownAfterShutdown to 1.

If the value isn't present, add it by creating the string value PowerDownAfterShutdown and set the value to 1.

Shudown behaviour is the cause for a lot of problems, for a good help-page see http://aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php (paragraph "powerdown issues")

And also try disconnecting the power cable to your pc for a couple of minutes, might be some erratic behaviour that a "total power off" might sort based on some other users experience regarding standby/shutdown problems.
Regards, T.

Thank you. That key was already in the registry and enabled. Pulling out the power cord is the only way I can shut down the computer anymore. I have been doing that for a week now since installing GBPvr.
I will look at the link you suggested.

I cant think of anything in GB-PVR that would stop your PC shutting down. I've also not seen other reports of it, so I can only assume its not GB-PVR causing this.

If you stop the GB-PVR Recording Service, GB-PVR Tray, and GBPVR.EXE, does your machine now shut down?

Maybe I should revise this for people and say my computer will not "Power down"
It wont power down booting from a DOS disk either.
I definatly have shut off from power switch enabled in the bios.

Hi,

Had the same issue before I installed GBPVR when I was running my od system - when I plugged a new power supply in it worked fine again - but then eventually went back to the old not shut down procedure.

I figured I had a faulty motherboard or connector somewhere - but I upgraded so didnt bother troubleshooting.

Maybe its completly unrelated to GBPVR - can you try with another PSU?

Thanks
