I was looking at an application on SourceForge called MediaPortal. This application has all the DVD stuff needed to do DVD out on the 350PVR and is written in C#.Net. Anyone else have any comments on this? I have not yet tried it, but if it works, couldn't it be incorporated into GB-PVR?

Can you try it out and let us know?

Cheers,
Colin.

From looking through the src tree it uses winDVD or powerDVD (or some similiar) so maybe its doing something neat to get the DVD to display on the TV-out. There is code for handing DVD under DshowNEt so maybe they figured it out?

Cheers,
Colin.

Playing a DVD on the PC desktop is no problem. The difficulty is making it work on the PVR350 and MVP.

Its also possible on the XCard, but uses a different mechanism to PC desktop/software decoding.

Can we put together a list of requirements to make it possible to play DVD over mediamvp or TV-out of the 350? I'm interested in looking at the possibilities of this and what is required.

Interestingly I see hauppauge are offering divx on the mediamvp. Are they using the transcoder on the fly or something else?

Hi Guys,

I'm very pleased you guys are looking @ the source of MediaPortal. Its opensource, so use it, learn from it, copy it. But I would like to remind all of you that its licensed under GPL. Please respect opensource and follow the GPL rules if you are gonna use (a part of) mediaportal
This means that any derivated work must b opensourced!
Keep up the good work on GB-PVR!

There is no GPL code in GB-PVR, and I have no intention of including any in the future.

It was never clear to me how the GPL applies to external parties writing plugins to applications that implement well known interfaces. Someone deciding to use a GPL component in an external plugin which is in no way under my control, would in no way require me to open source GB-PVR. So in this case I would expect that only the derivate work (the plugin) would need to be open source.

Sub,

I believe you are correct in that the plugin would need to make its src available if it contains GPL'ed code, but GBPVR would remain closed src.

I'm checking this out with those who know these things,

Colin.

Interesting... I wonder if this is why beyond TV removed DIVX from their software and released it as a plugin... hummmm...
