I have a pvr-150, 45 Hauppauge remote, and a usbuirt. I can get things working nicely with just the default Happauge equipment. But I would like to be able to use the usbuirt as an emitter or as a receiver and emitter.

I have tried to run the "learn key" thing, but with no luck. The usbuirt glows in response to the key pressed, but nothing on the screen changes. The USB-UIRT remote file doesn't change either (I'm assuming it should)

Has anybody experienced this problem before? As far as I know, the usbuirt should work just fine with gbpvr. Maybe I'm just missing something obvious.

Yes, it really should work with the hauppauge remote and the usb-uirt. It does for me, even though I do use the 34 button remote... I can't remember the exact steps for learning, but it should be straight forward... Not much help from me, other than that you shouldn't give up. You could, just for fun, try another remote...
I'm not always right

Hmmm...come to think about it. I do remember getting an error during installation of the application. It had to do with the Hauppauge remote. I can't remember it exactly, but it said something to the effect of "You will have to run some fix in order to use a Hauppauge remote". This slipped my since because even after that I was able to use the remote and IR blaster just fine. My problem now arises when I'm trying to get the usbuirt to recognize the remote and learn the commands.

When I get home tonight I will do more troubleshooting, although I'm not sure exactly where to start

Thats normal and can be ignored.

Have you tried learning another remote, as a test, incase it didnt like the IR signals from the device your were trying to learn?

I did try aiming my DishNetwork 311 remote at it and pressing keys, but no response from the usbuirt. It doesn't even blink (with the hauppauge remote it would at least blink).

I put the channel changer setting to usbuirt in the capture source tab and
in the DVD & Remote tab I selected usbuirt. I also removed the IR blaster plug from the back of the pvr-150 just so it wouldn't get confused Smile Still no luck.

What should happen after the learning command says "press key 1 now" and I press it and nothing happens (except the blink on the usbuirt)? I'm assuming I should receive some type of confirmation and some mapping written to the usbuirt-remote ini file.

Nope. What I'll do as a next step is round up all different remotes I can find in the house and try each one of them. I'll post again once I've done that.

Hey,

How far away was your remote from the device when you were trying to learn commands? It has to be about 2 or 3 cms away. (which can be a pain)

I also used the USBUIRT learning helper application, as it lets you test the signal you have just trained. I learned, tested a few times until I was happy. The app produces a file which is the same as the GBPVR one - so I found what keys werent working and then re-learnt them and cut / paste the commands into my GBPVR file. (these files are available, but you have to email the USBIRT guy - check his email on his webiste)

By the way Sub: Are you still collecting remote files to add into releases?

Thanks

Yes, any time anyone sends one through, I add it to the list.

Ok, so there seems to be some magic going on when I shut down my computer and try things again the next day. Last night, after rounding up a few remotes, I tried the Learn Key function for the usbuirt. On the first try it worked. So I grabbed the hauppauge remote (the one I intend to use) and learned all keys. Fired up gbpvr and was pleased to see that I could now control the program with the remote and usbuirt.

Next was the big test though. Would I be able to control my DishNetwork 311 STB. And here's where things get strange again. When I press certain channels gbpvr reads and the usbuirt transmits just fine. For other channels gbpvr read fine but the usbuirt won't transmit. When I say gbpvr "reads fine" I mean the numbers that appear on the screen are the exact ones I pressed. When I say the usbuirt "transmits fine" I mean that it'll literally blinks the 3 digit channel and channel the STB changed accordingly.

I relearned all number keys again to make sure I hadn't messed anything up the first time. However, the usbuirt still fails to transmit certain sequences while others work fine.

I didn't spend a lot of time with it, so there's a good bit of debugging I need to do- patterns regarding which sequences transmit and which don't, trying each single number channel, etc. Anybody know of any probable causes in the meantime?
